Week Three Waiver Report

Jason Vargas looks to post a strong outing against the Twins in Week Three - Jeff Gross

Anthony Calanni lists his top potential waiver wire pitchers and hitters for Week Three of the MLB season.

Week Two Results

Erik Bedard - 4 IP, 1 hit, 0 runs, 2 walks, 3 Ks, No Decision

Jeremy Guthrie - 6+2/3rd IP, 6 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, 2 Ks, Win

Carlos Villanueva - 7+1/3rd IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 3 Ks, No Decision

Vance Worley - 1 IP, 7 hits, 7 runs, 2 walks, 1 K, Loss

Yankees Left Handed Bats - 9 home runs and 20 RBI in 5 games

Mariners at Home - scored 3 runs or less in 6 out of 7 games

Starting Pitchers

1. Jason Vargas at Minnesota Twins (4/16)

2. Tommy Hanson at Minnesota Twins (4/17)

3. Ross Detwiler at Miami Marlins (4/17)

4. Chris Capuano vs. San Diego Padres (4/16)

I like all four of these guys mainly due to the fact that they will face very weak lineups. The Marlins have scored the least amount of runs in the league (20). The Padres are still without Chase Headley and Carlos Quentin will be serving the bulk of his 8 game suspension this week. Hanson and Vargas should succeed against the Twins in Minnesota. I've always thought that Vargas was underrated. He was a solid pitcher in Seattle and I think that he will be able to lessen the impact of Jered Weaver's elbow injury on the Angels rotation.

Hitters

Arizona Diamondback 3 games at New York Yankees/3 games at Colorado Rockies

New York Yankees 3 games vs. Arizona Diamondbacks/3 games at Toronto Blue Jays

Conor Gillaspie, 3B Chicago White Sox

A.J. Pollock, OF Arizona Diamondbacks

Nate Schierholtz, OF Chicago Cubs

Seth Smith, OF Oakland Athletics

Schierholtz and Smith, both left-handed batters, will see 5 righties in Week Three. Connor Gillaspie is batting .435 early as he fills in for the injured Gordon Beckham. A.J. Pollock is currently roaming centerfield in Arizona and should be able to take advantage of playing in Yankee Stadium and Coors Field.
