Keith Law's Top 100 Prospects: A Look at the Top Prospects at Each Position

Michael Chang

Ray Guilfoyle takes a look at Keith Law's Top 100 Prospects published earlier this week, and takes a stab at the top prospects at each position.

ESPN's Keith Law published his Top 100 Prospects for 2013 earlier this week, and today I am going to take a stab a listing the top prospects at each position, based on his Top 100 list. There are a couple guys that could be the top prospect at shortstop, as Rangers shortstop Jurickson Profar is the #1 overall prospect in the game, but Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts might have the better bat among the two, as Jason Parks from Baseball Prospectus mentioned in this chat recently, that Bogaerts may have a "7/7 bat". in layman's terms, he thinks Bogaerts will hit for power and average as he makes it to the highest level in the next few years.

Here is my take on the best prospects at each position:

C - Travis d'Arnaud, NYM; HM - Mike Zunino, SEA

1B - Jonathan Singelton, HOU;

2B - Alen Hanson, PIT; HM - Eddie Rosario, MIN

SS - Jurickson Profar, TEX; HM - Xander Bogaerts, BOS

3B - Miguel Sano, MIN; Anthony Rendon, WAS

OF - Oscar Taveras, STL, Wil Myers, TB, Christian Yelich, MIA; HM - Byron Buxton, MIN, Billy Hamilton, CIN, Albert Almora, CHC

RHP - Dylan Bundy, BAL; HM - Gerrit Cole, PIT

LHP - Tyler Skaggs, ARI; HM - Max Fried, SD

CL- Carlos Martinez, STL; HM - Jarred Cosart, HOU

I took the liberties of moving Pirates shortstop prospect Alen Hanson to second base, as there is small chance he may have to move off of shortstop.

If I had my choice, i would take Bogaerts as the top shortstop prospect just based on his bat, which could be an impact bat, according to many.

I love the power potential of Twins third base prospect Miguel Sano, as he is the only true 80 power bat in the minors right now. Law had this to say about Sano in his scouting report:

On defense, I saw Sano play an indifferent third base in August, but I've had sources tell me they saw more effort there, and he has the arm and the feet to handle the position if he doesn't outgrow it. Third base is a void in the minors right now, so he's far a more valuable asset if he can stay at the position. And with 30-40 homer power and the chance for mid-.300 OBPs, he'd be the anchor for the Twins' lineup for years.

Third base is a void right now, but there is a chance that Cubs shortstop prospect Javier Baez and Dodgers shortstop prospect Corey Seager will eventually move to third, so the position could become stronger in the next year or so.

Stop back tomorrow as I publish my 2013 Fantasy Prospect All Star Team using Law's Top 100 Rankings.
