I am not sure about you, but of all the prospect experts on this planet, I think I have more confidence in Keith Law's prospect rankings than all the others. This is not to say the John Sickels, Jason Parks and Jonathan Mayo's of the world aren't good, it's just that I have come to trust Law's rankings more than others. Is he ever wrong on a prospect? Of course. They all make mistakes, just like I make mistakes in my rankings.
I have had a few very busy days at work of late, but I still found time to check out Law's rankings today. And I was very happy to see where he ranked a few guys I own in my AL-only keeper league. So, let's take a look at his top 10:
1. Jurickson Profar, TEX
2. Oscar Taveras, STL
3. Dylan Bundy, BAL
4. Wil Myers, TB
5. Xander Bogaerts, BOS
6. Christian Yelich, MIA
7. Francisco Lindor, CLE
8. Gerrit Cole, PIT
9. Taijuan Walker, SEA
10. Addison Russell, OAK
I have to say that I absolutely love the Bogaerts ranking here. Here is what Law had to say about Bogaerts in his scouting report:
A year ago, Bogaerts looked like a high-ceiling bat who'd have to find a new position, most likely third base, but a year of full-season ball at shortstop with continued work on maintaining his conditioning has his odds of remaining in the middle of the field up over even money. And a shortstop who can hit like this is a pretty special commodity.
I have been saying all offseason that Bogaerts deserves to be a Top 10 prospect, just ask Bret, Craig and Jason. I am also of the mind that he will be more valuable for fantasy purposes than Jurickson Profar.
I was very surprised with the Yelich ranking here. I was never a fan, but Law thinks he has 20+ home run power with an excellent on base percentage. I don't see the 20+ HR power from him hitting in the pitcher-friendly Marlins Park, but I have been wrong before.
I see 6 of his top 10 getting the call up this season, including Profar, Taveras, Bundy, Myers, Walker and Cole. Who has the better season for fantasy owners? I am going to go with Myers, as I don't see Tampa keeping him in AAA for too long this season.
