Panthers' Kris Versteeg Placed On Injured Reserve

Florida Panthers winger Kris Versteeg has been placed on injured reserve by the team after suffering a groin injury on the last day of training camp.

There is no word yet on how long Versteeg will have to sit out for the Panthers, but groin injuries can take a very long time to heal, especially for hockey players that depend on speed and quickness the way Versteeg does. The injury will definitely leave a hole in your fantasy lineup considering the veteran winger notched career-highs in goals (23) and points (54) last season on an upstart Florida club that looks poised to prove they can be a consistent playoff contender this year.

The Panthers have called up forward Drew Shore from the AHL's San Antonio Rampage to take Versteeg's place on the Panthers' active roster. Shore has yet to appear in an NHL game during his young career but was second on the Rampage in scoring leading up to now and will get his first chance to prove himself. He obviously will remain an unknown quantity fantasy wise so if Cory Conacher or Vladimir Tarasenko happen to still be available on the waiver wire in your league, now would be the time to go and pick them up.
