Joey Votto to Have Knee Surgery: Out 3-4 Weeks

Stay connected for news and updates

Update from John Fay, and it's not good

Votto to have surgery tomorrow to repair torn meniscus in his left knee, suffered on 6/29 at SF. Will miss 3-4 weeks. Roster moves tomorrow.

This is an even bigger blow to the Reds in their battle in the NL Central, and is bad news for fantasy owners. Go grab the best first baseman off of your league waiver wire now. If Todd Frazier is available, he stands to gain the most from Votto's injury. Frazier is hitting .283-.351-.576 with 10 HRs, 25 runs and 30 RBI in 183 at bats this season.

Frazier is striking out at a 26% clip, but is also walking at a 9/3% rate, so he's got an idea at the plate and will take a free pass. His .290 ISO appears extreme so expect that to come down as the season goes along. He's got decent power and some speed, so he could add a few stolen bases as well.

Frazier is batting third tonight vs Diamondbacks starter Wade Miley, and is 1-1 with a run scored.
