Dynasty trade help
I am in a 16 team dynasty league and I have been offered two separate deals:
1. I was offered Matt Cain (2 years) for Matt Holliday (1 year) and Cory Luebke (2 years).
2. I was offered Jaime Garcia (2 years) and Johan Santana (1 year) for Matt Holliday (1 year)
Would you doeither deal? I am torn on what to do. I could use some SP's but I lose the power stats too.
Please give me your thoughts!
thanks.

No and No
I’m a big fan of Luebke heading into this season and I believe he will score closer to Cain than one would think. For me to even consider the first deal there would need to be another player acquired. Also I’m betting that the offering owner expects Luebke to score closer as well and is hoping that you’ll bite based on Holliday having a down year and Cain being a more attractive name. Pass on that.
As for the second one, even though his value is currently little to none, I don’t get why you would need to throw in Santana to acquire Garcia. If you’re basing Holliday’s value off of last year and not predicting a rebound, then Garcia for Holliday is pretty even in my opinion. I still wouldn’t do it though, he should out produce last season easily.
In general, if a trade is multiple players for a single player I’d expect that single player to be elite, or as close to it as possible. With the first package you should be able to target a better pitcher, someone closer to a number 1.
Close calls
I’m in the same predicament as the first offer, trading Cain for a package that includes Luebke. Personally I really like Luebke going forward, but it’s hard to argue with Cain’s consistency. If it was one year of Cain, I’d take it more willingly.
These trades mostly come down to how much value you place on Holliday. Do you think he’ll be healthy and capable of his old glory days? I think he’ll be fine moving forward, with Beltran and Berkman hitting behind him.
I like the second trade a little more. Johan will be on an innings limit, maybe 25 starts at best, assuming no setbacks. You only have him for this year, so you can’t plan long-term for Johan’s recovery. Holliday is probably what holds me back in this trade, because I expect him to improve instead of decline. That being said, Garcia is a great groundball pitcher with some good upside, on a top-2 team in the NL Central. I think he has a nice future, and two years of him versus one on Holliday and Johan is nice. I wouldn’t make this trade, but I wouldn’t think you’re crazy for taking it. Ideally, he should throw in more on both of them, though.

I would consider the 2nd one
I would laugh at the 1st one.
I'm with you
the first offer would be rejected and I would consider the 2nd, but would want more than Garcia for Holliday. Santana is a big question mark this year and his name value far exceeds his draft day value.

The first one is totally no.
Luebke looks like he’s going to be as good as Cain if not better, so you’re essentially giving away Holliday for free. Santana hasn’t played in, what, 2 years? I’d question what you can expect from him, and Garcia isn’t close to enough on his own to move the needle for me. I say no on boht.
Let's trade Reddick for Heyward!
