Fantasy Baseball 2012: Brett Lawrie or Jesus Montero?
It was announced yesterday that the Blue Jays and Mariners had engaged in trade talks involving Michael Pineda for Brett Lawrie. As we all know by now, Pineda was dealt to the New York Yankees for Jesus Montero. But, it is interesting that Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopolous entertained the trade offer.
Who would you rather have on your fantasy team in 2012: Jesus Montero or Brett Lawrie?
I think I would prefer Lawrie because i am a sucker for power/speed threats, and Lawrie has a solid bat as well, so he won't hurt you in batting average. Montero will be playing in a pitchers park, so there is a chance he struggles in the power categories intially.

voting results
I am a little surprised at the voting results at this point: 25-2 in favor of Lawrie.

how so?
considering lawrie plays 3b and montero plays 1b/dh i don’t think it’s all that close at all, especially in al-only leagues. furthermore, looking at the lineups, home park, etc lawrie is in a much better situation now than montero
Montero
will also catch this season….or at least SEA will run him out there, so he will gain catcher eligibility. He gains plenty of value if he catches this season.
How does ESPN/Yahoo leagues address this? If he catches in spring training, do they make him eligible at catcher for drafts?

It’s been my experience that once they set the database and open signups, they wait for the player to qualify before changing the position or adding another one.
