Ranking the Pitching Prospects: Skaggs, Hultzen, Bundy and Others

PHOENIX, AZ - SEPTEMBER 27: Starting pitcher Jarrod Parker #56 of the Arizona Diamondbacks pitches against the Los Angeles Dodgers during the Major League Baseball game at Chase Field on September 27, 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

Fantasy owners, especially those in keeper or dynasty leagues, are always looking for the next top prospect to draft who will carry them the their next (first?) fantasy baseball championship. The prospect experts are in full force right now with John Sickels covering his Top 20 Prospects for each major league team, Baseball America with their Top 10 Prospects and Baseball Prospectus's Kevin Goldstein publishing his Top 20 Prospects as well. ESPN's Keith Law will publish his Top 100 Prospects for 2012 at the end of January.

Let's take a shot at ranking John Sickels' A- rated pitching prospects today. My rankings after the jump:

Star-divide

A- Rating

Jarrod Parker, ARI

Tyler Skaggs, ARI

Archie Bradley, ARI

Jacob Turner, DET

Dylan Bundy, BAL

Jameson Taillon, PIT

Taijuan Walker, SEA

Danny Hultzen, SEA

Drew Pomeranz, COL

Now here is my take on ranking them for dynasty/keeper leagues:

Tyler Skaggs

Danny Hultzen

Dylan Bundy

Taijuan Walker

Jameson Taillon

Jarrod Parker

Archie Bradley

Jacob Turner

Drew Pomeranz

This was a definitely a tough exercise, as many have #1 starter potential, with Parker and Skaggs being the closest to the big leagues. We don't know how Bundy and Bradley will perform in their first year pitching in the minors, so all we have is scouting reports to base the rankings on.

How would you rank them for long term keeper leagues?

In fantasy leagues

I’d target Hultzen over Walker since he’s likely to reach the majors first…but I still love Walker’s crazy upside.
