Fake Teams Fantasy Baseball Chat Tonight at 9 PM EST

Thought I’d comment on the Felix Hernandez ranking discussed earlier in the chat.

I ranked Felix Hernandez 15th and as you can see, 12 of the 14 pitchers ahead of him scored more points than him in 2011, some by a significant amount and as many as six by 100 points or more. Another five pitchers ranked after him outscored him. The two who scored less in front of him are David Price and Zack Greinke who both had horrible luck in 2011.

The problem isn’t only that Hernandez is unable to earn the W for the 7 points most starts, but its that he also often earns the L for -5. Also, his career WHIP is over 1.20, which is excellent, but not as good as some ahead of him. His division continues to get better around him while SEA does little to improve. Even with an exact repeat of his 2010 Cy Young season in 2011, he would’ve only been the 7th highest scoring pitcher last year and because that was his best season to date, it wouldn’t be wise to project a repeat of it each year.

He would most certainly be in my Top 10 for 5×5, but the W/L multipliers really do go a long way in H2H points leagues as a W is worth more than a HR or any other stat and a L hurts more than any other stat.
