Fake Teams Fantasy Baseball Chat Tonight at 9 PM EST

Time for another fantasy baseball chat - I will be chatting tonight from 9 PM EST for around 2 hours (could be longer, we'll see how the questions are going). Feel free to send in any questions you have about our rankings, prospects, or anything else fantasy baseball, and I'll try to get to as many of them as possible! Hope you'll stop by!

prospects

i have a 35 player roster in a 14 team dynasty keeper league. 9 pitchers count and 14 position players count. i now have 12 eligible pitchers and 17 (if trout stays in the mlb) position players. I will pick up one more player in the next draft. I have 5 prospects. miguel sano, bubba starling, jean segura, dylan bundy, and bryce harper. except, for harper none have a chance to play in 2012. i will be competing for the playoffs because i have a great roster that was built upon the best prospects. (smoak, tulo, longoria, wieters, c santana, stanton, l morrison, cano (trade) j heyward, kershaw, chapman, strasburg, n feliz, zimmerman, storen, etc). my 5 prospects are more than any other team in the league. but since i’ve built my team by drafting young, i am tempted with my one choice to draft another prospect (christian yelich, xander bogaerts, gose, oscar taveras). should my next draft be a decent big leaguer, (the good ones are gone, but i could probably get someone like mat gamel, ben revere, chris heisey) or go after an excellent prospect.

Whichever gives you more value

One of those prospects is likely to fetch more in a trade than the value of the MLB player, unless there’s a specific category you need. I would probably go with the prospect unless that specific category can be addressed. You can always trade the prospect for something later in the season as well.

Crazy trade I considered

I was considering trading Matt Moore for Jesus Montero. My thinking is I’m in a roto 5×5 keeper AL-only 2 catcher league, and both are under contract for 6 years. In our league, to qualify at a position during the season, you need to play 5 games at a position, and to qualify for next year’s draft the position, you need 20 games there.

So my thinking was that if Montero plays even just 5 games at catcher every season, he could be a fantasy monster for me. I’d probably ask for another keeper in addition to Montero since Moore has a hype advantage (maybe someone Like Bourjos who has a cheap 2-year contract) but this deal would only make sense if the Montero at catcher assumption is correct.

I’m probably not going to do it though, since I doubt the Ms will play him there at all due to injury risk and not having some amazing DH option who would lose playing time if Montero was at C. But I wanted to hear your thoughts.

Dexter Fowler

I was interested in your projections for Fowler, and I wondered if there was a reason that you thought he would steal about 40 bases. The last couple of years he’s stolen 12 and 13 – he’s always kind of struck me as someone who should be a better basestealer than he actually is.
