Who to keep in my league for next year? Ackley or Verlander?
It seems it is that time of year that I need to seriously start looking at who my keepers are for next season. In my league we can keep a player for 3 years after the year he was acquired. If a player is kept, he is drafted next year 2 slots above where he was drafted this year. The true bargains are in the waiver wire, where guys only cost a last round pick for the following year.
Here is my breakdown of players I am looking to keep (next year's draft position in parenthesis)
Ellsbury (6)
Strasburg (13)
Harper (25)
Posey (25) (picked up on the wire after a guy dropped him due to the injury)
With these guys being kept I have one slot left for a keeper player for next year. here is who i am debating between:
Verlander (4) - could be a solid 2nd round pick, but i am not HUGE on pitchers in the first few rounds. That being said, he has been a stud and I am a Tigers fan.
JJ Hardy (25) - quietly has climbed the ranks as a quality ss. not sure if a barely top 10 ss is worth the keep.
Dustin Ackley (25) - could be a top 5 2B for the next few years.
Goldschmidt (25) - i am high on him, but 1B is a deep position and easily replaced.
With all that I am leaning the most towards Ackley, given the quality of play in his position and the fact that he is a late pick for me, allowing me to focus on other positions of need early in next year's draft.
Thoughts?

Haren is another posibility
I just looked back and saw Dan Haren was my 7th rd pick this year, which would make him a 5th round pick next year. Again, a thought, but still an early pick as a keeper.
Out of all those names:
IMHO, I’d drop Goldschmidt. You can easily find a replacement at 1B. Like Jesus Guzman in San Diego. It’s too deep to keep an unproven player when you have name talent already.
Not exactly the point
He’s saying that he is debating which one to keep out of Verlander, Hardy (uh, no f’in way), Ackley, and Goldschmidt.
The value question is the only reason this is even remotely a debate – Verlander is clearly the best player. I’m a little confused as to whether he would cost a 4th or 2nd round pick, but I don’t think it really matters. In a keeper league where every team is keeping 5 players, you can add at least one round and probably two to that number, which makes Verlander the clear choice, vis-a-vis available talent pool come next year’s draft.
Verlander is a top-5 pitcher, and quite possibly #1 this year. He’s proven it. You know you are getting an elite ace with him. Ackley just has the benefit of playing a premium position, and playing it pretty well so far. I would be surprised if he didn’t regress a little next year as opposing teams start to get a book on him. Not saying he won’t have a good career, I think he will, but Verlander has already proven he’s top-tier, and has not been a big injury risk.
keep verlander
and if u want ackley swith him out with ellsbury

I would keep Verlander, Ellsbury, Harper, Posey and Ackley. With Strasburg, you don’t know what you are going to get with him, even if he is a 13th round pick. Verlander is a legit ace and you know what you will get from him.
Other than Ellsbury, you don’t know what you are going to get from Posey-coming of leg injury, Strasburg-TJS, Ackley-soph slump?, and Harper-when does he get the call?

i bet you
ith Strasburg, you don’t know what you are going to get with him, even if he is a 13th round pick.
he goes WAY before the 13th round in the next draft. ergo, keeping him he gets a massive deal.
