Too early to buy into Lawrie?

Have a potential offer that has me giving up Carl Crawford and receiving Lawrie, Jacob Turner and Casey Mcgehee. As much as I like Lawrie as a future stud 3B/OF he hasn't played in the bigs yet and does have the hand injury as of now. Turner projects as a future 1/2 in the rotation and McGehee would take over for Chipper to allow me to get younger at 3B. Your thoughts? Thanks. (18 team dynasty league)

I would rather have Crawford. Lawrie and Turner are good prospects, but Crawford is established, playing in Boston for the next 6 years or whatever... It wouldn't be enough for me to make a deal.

as much as i hate the sox. i'd keep crawford.

he’s having a bad year. but i doubt it happens 2 years in a row.
if bryce harper is available i’d pick him up. or try and package together a trade for him with crawford

but he just got promoted to double a and may start next year for the nats.

First off

Lawrie is a 3rd baseman, not outfielder, and while you shouldn’t do that trade, it may make sense to trade for Lawrie if that guy would give you something more valuable than Turner and Mcghee with Lawrie. He replaces an aging Jones, and if you can get a young OF from this guy with Lawrie it solidifies the future of your team.

Lawrie can bring a ton of potential value as a 3B.

Especially when you consider the weakness of the position league wide. Add in the fact you have Glass Chipper as your current 3B and the move makes even more sense. I’d try to keep Crawford though, why not try to flip Melky for Lawrie and Turner… Melky’s value will never be higher. If that doesn’t work it is worth trying Melky for Lawrie straight up.

I know Lawrie is at 3rd now but from what I’ve read it seems like he’ll shift to the OF down the road. My other option is to try and move Bruce and get Lawrie back. The current manager who holds the right to him is pretty high on him so melky would only make him laugh. Harper is long gone….. It’s an 18 team dynasty draft with annual minor league drafts.

Don't count on Lawrie playing OF anytime soon.

Unless he goes all Edwin Encarnacion on defense he will be sticking at 3B. Reports indicated he is no above average 3B but his range is great and he did make improvements this season. He should continue to progress over time working with Brian Butterfield, the solid infield coach of the Jays.

It was a stretch to try offering Melky, maybe Bruce is the way to go but I would ask for more back. There is an excellent chance Lawrie’s bat will play well in the majors but he is a rookie and maybe you can play up the injury. Perhaps McGehee to cover you until Lawrie comes back.

Lawrie for Crawford is completely ridiculous.

If that’s the starting asking price for Lawrie you should just not try. There’s not even close to a guarantee that Lawrie even makes it in the big leagues. Of the four big hitting prospects this year (Moustakas, Rizzo, Hosmer, Ackley), only Ackley and Hosmer haven’t sucked.
