Trade Conundrum

I am in a bit of a bind. I have Adrian Gonzalez and Prince Fielder on my MLB roster in a keeper league (no contracts, just number of keepers per year limit). On my minor league team, I have Eric Hosmer. I have had some owners contact me recently about Hosmer's availability. One owner who is the most serious about doing a deal has offered Julio Teheran and a role player (i.e. non-keeper level) player and has also offered Shelby Miller but wanted me to give him a fairly high draft pick as well with Hosmer to make that deal.

I would be hesitant but told him I would do Hosmer for Miller straight up but he wanted more so that one seems dead and while I love Miller I am not going to to overpay for him at this point in the season.

My question is whether I am better off getting a top shelf pitching prospect in Teheran for Hosmer or would a better move be to trade AGon or Fielder in the offseason in a big deal for something(s) and keep Hosmer to tandem with the other 1B guy left? (Both Hosmer and Teheran will need to be kept on the MLB roster next season and Miller will still be MiLB eligible in our league so there is some added value for roster flexibility with Miller).

Looking for thoughts on the above situation. I am inclined to just sit tight and see what comes my way this offseason. One of the 1B guys will have to be traded because I don't see myself keeping all three on my MLB roster. Thanks for any input.

Hosmer

I think YOU should get more than just Miller or Teheran for Hosmer. Hitters have more value than pitchers for the most part.
Also, for some reason, I like Miller more than Teheran….

I would just sit tight if I were you. Hosmer has not even sniffed his potential yet. I would have to be blown away to deal him.

Hosmer for Miller straight-up might be justified if you’re in need of SP help, but I certainly wouldn’t give Hosmer AND MORE for Miller (or Teheran, for that matter). I would ask for something back along with the SP (either one) – I agree with Ray, hitters hold more value, and Hosmer is already in The Show – Miller is two years away.

Wait until the off-season, let the fervor around Prince build, and sell him before he signs…if only because if he signs as a DH/1B with an AL club, his perceived value will decrease (though from fantasy perspective, it doesn’t change a bit).

either get a good pitching prospect like you said for hosmer.

or what i would do is sell agonz while his stock is high.
i dont think agonz will duplicate this success next season. and i think you’re better tring to trade him for a top pitcher in verlander or CC or Felix. or a top OF (or wherever you need help) stay away from reyes. but if you need certain hitting or pitching help. you could sell agonz high. and it wll pay off soon

RBI and R can vary a lot from year to year but he is no worse than a top 5 1B guy for the next 3-5 years I would think. I see Prince Fielder as a better trade candidate (although admittedly he is also probably near the top of any 1B ranking as well).

Thus my quandry – Hosmer is a top talent no doubt – but with those two guys who will undoubtedly outproduce him for several more years, its tough to decide what I should do. My team is quite young but in pretty good shape moving forward.

Will need to make room for Hosmer and Mike Minor by making some deals, etc.

get to keep 15 MLB guys total.

i think your pitching is pretty solid as is your OF.

i do agree that they will both out-produce hosmer the next few years.
but i just dont think agonz will do this well the rest of his career. its better to sell him now.
i have hiim ranked as my #7 1B. for this and next year. the list goes
1.Pujols
2.Cabarera
3.Tex
4. Konerko
5. fielder
6. Howard
7. Agonz
and yes that does have a little homerism in their. seeing as he could easily be 5 or 4.
but next year i dont see him doing this,
its sorta like AJ burnett for the yanks.
pretty good in 09. and then shit the next year, then back to average. and thats what i see Agonz’ 3 year timline.
i’d try to sell him for either Kemp, Braun, Tulo, Verlander, Or CC. keep fielder. cuz i think he gets upwards of 35 hr’s next year.
if you decide not to trade him for Tulowitski. i’d try to buy Ramorez while his stock is low.
and i’d also look into trading for Josh Johnson while his stock is low. also if no one has strausburg. i’d pick him up or trade for him in a few months. they are talking about him entering the lineup at the end of this season rather than next. and use one of my keepers on him
