A fanpost on a really interesting new topic that no one has brought up
No. That's not true. Its to discuss a trade that I am debating proposing in a keeper league what else is new. I had mentioned an idea I had a few days ago for a post, it will happen eventually. A little over a week ago I brought a trade idea to this site, so some of you may have read my league specs, 7x7 (OBP, SLG, K/9 and BBs) with 14 teams, positions are C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, INF, 4 OF, UTIL, 4 SP, 2 RP, 2 P. We keep any 10 players, no budget so there is no value to keeping a guy that was acquired for less. I am in a pretty good position to win now and have been debating trading with one of the last place teams to give him some young pieces. My pitching staff has 4 closers and a few decent starters (Marcum, Hudson, Kennedy, Pineda). My hitting is pretty stacked, as of now I have
1B-Hosmer
2B-Pedroia
3B-Alex Gordon
SS-Reyes
INF-Bautista
OF-Braun
OF-McCutchen
OF-Zobrist
OF-Stanton
Util-Angel Pagan
I also have Wright coming back from the DL soon which would bump Gordon to the outfield and either Zobrist to 1B and remove Hosmer, or remove pagan. On my bench I have Anthony Rizzo and Desmond Jennings. The offer I was going to try to make was Rizzo, Jennings, and Stanton for J-Ham and Michael Morse. Morse would take over for Hosmer and J-Ham clearly takes over for Stanton. Then when Wright is back I would be sitting with Hosmer and Pagan on my bench and I could pull some of my other players for the hot hand if they struggle at any point. I have been trying to deal some hitters for pitching but have found basically no interest. I am wondering what you guys think I should make as my next move with my team. The way I see it my keepers for next year would be:
Bautista
Braun
Reyes
Wright
McCutchen
Stanton (or J-Ham if I make the trade)
Pineda
Pedroia
and then 2 of Hosmer, Gordon, Hudson, Zobrist, and Neftali Feliz (Adam Wainright is an option too, I've got him stashed on my DL for the season).

Yeah
And I’m still notorious for giving up good players for nothing. I traded Pujols in ‘06 for Felix and Bay (both turned into relatively useless late picks). That same year I dealt Matt Holliday and Liriano for Ben Sheets and Jeremy Hermida. I dropped Justin Morneau for somebody random that year, and then at the end of the year dealt Chase Utley for Jake Peavy and Brad Lidge. Not to mention when I of course took the only valuable piece I had from those deals (Felix) and got nothing for him. And before his breakout year I had Longoria, but my 10th keeper was already set at Victorino so I had to deal him for almost nothing. Still I’ve managed to put together a decent set of hitters.
I would try to trade
for a pitcher. You have enough hitting talent to grab a top flight starter like a Lee or Kershaw. If not, sit tight and don’t make any of the type of deals you mention above.
You have to give to get, but you can’t give and not get back, especially when you are in first.

Well
I’m not in first. Its a head to head league and my won-lost isn’t too great, but on the season I am first in every hitting stat except for Avg where I am 2nd. In pitching I’m middle of the pack in all but wins (1st) and ERA (3rd). I think my team will do well over the rest of the season, I’ve just been unlucky with head to head variance so far. But yeah, last night I proposed Kennedy and McCutchen for Kershaw and Sanchez. I don’t like giving up one of my major steals guys but like you said, I have to give to get
If given the option
Do I take Hanson straight up for McCutchen?
Don't underrate Stanton as a keeper
That kid could easily hit 50 homers next season. I think ESPN has him 18th in their keeper rankings.
Could you post a link to this ranking?
I found one but it was from back in February and Stanton wasn’t that highly rated
i'd try to deffintley trade pedroia now.
the soz are going down hill. and next year i just dont see pedria hitting this well.
reyes i dont know if he’ll ever have another season like this. so if you could get something good for those 2:
look for a team with a pitcher at say verlanders level and a back-up at say an annibal sanchez type level.
if you’re not looking to trade reyes. over pedroia and hudson for the verlander level pitcher and you may have to swap some young talent.
