I need some keeper help, from people not invested in my two teams. They have gotten markedly worse for the past few seasons. I need fresh eyes.
Team 1: I am keeping Frank Gore. I need two more keepers from the combination of Miles Austin, Joe Flacco, Calvin Johnson, Brandon Lloyd, Matt Schaub, Mike Tolbert, Wes Welker, CJ Spiller
Team 2: Again keeping Gore. The I again need two keepers from Ronnie Brown, Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis, Joe Flacco, Brandon Jacobs, Tony Romo, Steve Smith (Car), Reggie Wayne, CJ Spiller
I know who I would eventually choose, but I desperatly need fresh eyes here. I have fallen off badly in these leagues, partially because of mistakes with keepers.

League 1 – I’d probably keep Calvin Johnson and Miles Austin. I haven’t looked too intently yet, but QB seems deep just at first glance.
League 2 – Based on who you have, I’d probably keep Romo and Wayne. I think that those two are probably the closest to safe among that bunch, and also have the highest upside as well. Vernon Davis would probably be my 3rd in line after those two.

Lloyd and Welker are decent keepers for League 1 also. It’s close between those 2 and Austin.

2. Davis and wayne.
welker will outpreform austin, because dez bryant will be the new #1 in dallas. and i see austin (who wasnt really a good wr in the first place) dropping in stats, especially with an iconsistent and injuy poned qb behind him.
davis and wayne are the clear top 2 talents in league 2. followed by jacobs and crabtree.
i also would consider trading gore whenever you get the chance.
he’s not gonna produce this year

1. Austin and MegaTron. MegaTron is your best keeper here.
2. I doubt Ronnie Brown is draftable. Wayne and Romo I guess, yet I don’t like this set of keepers in the slightest.

pro-bowls dont make you a good reciever.
he’s a terrible route runner. and his stats were inflated by a team that did not run at all the past 2 seasons.
he is overrated. the cowboys did not run and only passed the past to seasons. and he’s stats were inflated by it.
you’ll see them go down when the cowboys start to run and the better reciever in dez bryant takes over the #1 spot.

new coaching staff basically.
wade phillips sucked, and their new coach sys they will try and focus more on the run.

33 catches for 486 yards in weeks 1-5 before Romo went down. This after 1,320 yards in the last 12 games of 2009. While he’s no Hakeem Nicks Austin is certainly an above average WR talent wise — and production wise.

you were correct about one thing. above average production wise. not talent wise.
you cant count the stats when te cowboys didnt run at all. and besides a rookie he was their only actual serviciabale reciever.
he sucks at route running.
the cowboys were near the bottom at rushing attempts for the time you mentioned. and therefore his stats were inflated.
pro-bowls mean nothing like the stats that you put up. he is an over-rated reciever. not nearly as good as espn says he is (like with most players espn talks about)
and his numbers will go down this year with an injury proned qb. who shrivles up under pressure.
he is not the best wr on his team, you will see that when dez bryant takes over as the #1 next year

Austin
Dez is the better talent and will become the #1 in Dallas this season. That said, while Austin’s route running does need improvement it’s not nearly as bad as some here make it out to be — and you don’t need to be a route running technician to be a very successful WR (Randy Moss only runs 1 route well – the 9). Austin will end up with another 1,000 yard season in 2011.
Dallas will continue to lean on the passing game in 2011. Their defense is going to be shaky and the team will need to put up points to secure a playoff spot.

randy moss has better speed and height thatn austin.
he was made for that route. and its a lot harder for the big guys to run routes the way austin should. his route running sucks.
and you may be right about him getting 1,000 yds. (i think it’ll be closer to 800) but that doesnt mean he is a good reciever. he is the single most over-rated reciever in football. he is everything that you don’t want in a reciever.
you put him on any balanced team. or a passing team with good recievers. and his #‘s drop and i mean far.

Football Outsiders had Austin as the 17th best WR in 2010 according to DVOA. While advanced stats in football aren’t as informative as advanced stats are in other sports to claim Austin is not an elite WR is frankly ludicrous.

While I agree with you there are probably only 5-10 elite WR in the league and I shouldn’t have placed Austin in this class. That said, he certainly is a top 25 WR in regards to talent, which is the consensus in the NFL.

i know more football than just about anybody i know. i have played it my whole life. and know just everything their is to know about the sport itself. their are a very little amount of people that know more than me

“Defense-adjusted Value Over Average. This number represents value, per play, over an average WR in the same game situations. The more positive the DVOA rating, the better the player’s performance” basically a stat based off stats. like say a WR runs a curl. it judges how that play turned out against another wr running the same route. so again its based soley off stats. and has mike wallace ranked #1. so i wouldnt count it as much of a judgement for the best players.

Idk, i’d say austin is top 35-40 talent wise. and top 20 statistic wise. i mean, idk how you can have him better tan any of the giants or eagles 3 recievers, or how anyone can say he’s better than Dez. he has inflated stats, and sucks at route running. his hands are average but just barely. he doesnt have the ability to shake off a quality corner, and his cathing in trafic ability is poor. which means when he gets hit immediatley after cathing it, it doesnt turn out so well. or when he’s in a tight space, and someone is going at him, he usually doesnt catch it.
he is not to great of a reciever. you can put many #4 reciever’s in his spot and they will perform aswell.

oh. and i have to wait a day.
so here is my list (btw. yours sucks. you put rodgers twice just to keep eli off. and put romo in eli’s #7 spot)
1. Peyton (one of the. if not the single best qb ever. the iq of his arm is more than most people’s brain)
2. Brady (full of self. but a great winner. great playoff guy.)
3. Rodgers (2 if he can perform the way he has)
4. Brees (great player. that is all)
5. Vick (after next season when he gets hurt. off the top 10. but he is a dynamic player. and tho i hate him. deservant of this spot. )
6. Rivers (not a playoff performer. not a winner. deadly accurate. but if he were in a colder climate. or a tougher division. wouldnt crack top 8. maybe not 10)
7. Eli (would be higher if it werent for his turnovers. a true leader.)
8. Ben (an overrated qb. but he wins. well his team wins. but he is better than a lot of other guys out their. he doesnt do anything great. but an average amount of everything. which makes him this high)
9. Schaub (if he could get some blocking. and maybe some defense. in a perfect situation to improve his ranking)
10. Free-man (on the rise. he doesnt make the list if it werent for his pottential. a real leader. and a fun guy)
11. Ryan (a very over-rated qb. im suprised i put him this high)
12. Romo (a solid starter. nothing special. injury prone. and his stats are padded by a turrible dallas rushing attack. that said. i’d take him over a lot of guys in this league)
1,000. Kevin Kolb (extremley overrated by iggle fans. not a starting caliber QB. not worth anything ore than a 2 and a 3)

Freeman Way to High
1. Totally agree on Kolb.
2. I would take Stafford over Ryan and Freeman.
3. Ben has suffered thanks to one of the worst OLs in the NFL. I would take him over Eli, who has benefited from one of the best olines in the NFL and a decent WR core yet still couldn’t carry his team to the playoffs last year.

while you are right to an extent.
ben had a better team around him. now eli has had a great oline (but they have been hurt an old the last 2 seasons).
ben has veteran wr’s around him.
while eli has ha to play with one of the youngest wide recieving cores in the league. ben had experience around him. and for the last few years eli has been playing with wr’s all under 25 basically.
i put eli ahead of ben because, well they both do different things great.
eli imo. is the better qb. eli is a better leader and character. he’s tougher (2nd longest qb start streak in the nfl only behind his brother). the guy is one of the more accurate and aware qb’s in the league. the only real knocks on him are his turnovers (which can be cut easily and his brother.
most of eli’s turnovers were off his recievers hands.
im not saying ben isnt good. but i dont see him as a better qb than eli

Lets also remember things like who the QB enjoys throwing to.
Romo/Austin good combo. Kitna/Dez good combo. When I find out Kitna has won the job Ill consider Dez a better pick then Austin. As for now Romo has always worked best with Austin and Witten. I believe there are quote of Dez bashing Romo about not passing to him enough.
Dez has fantastic upside still no reason to take him over a proven WR who works better with the starting QB

Wouldn’t at least one of the two have to be good to get those numbers? So it’s either both are great players, Romo is the greatest QB in the history of the game and Austin sucks, or Romo is no better than Ryan Leaf and Austin is the new Jerry Rice. You’re call.
