I am currently in bad shape in my contract keeper league, and I'm looking to cash it in this year and rebuild for the future.
I have Miguel Cabrera on a contract that expires this season, and I'm fielding offers from the teams on top.
One team has offered me Josh Johnson. Next year would be the last year of Josh Johnson's contract, and he would cost $12. (For reference, here's some prices that some pitchers went for in our league's auction this year: Halladay $37, Lincecum $32, Sabathis $26, Verander $20, Hanson $15). After 2012, Josh Johnson would go back to auction.
Another team has offered Matt Moore. I could keep Moore on my prospect roster next year, and, if he pitches 50 IP, I could promote him the next year. In this scenario I could have Moore in 2013 for $0 and 2014 for $6. Then I could sign him for one more year at $9, or three more at $14 per year.
So, basically, do I want Josh Johnson for 2012 at $12, or Matt Moore for 3-5 years for $0, $6, $9 or $0, $6, $14, $14, $14.
