Fantasy baseball keeper league trade help.

Hey guys, I currently play in a fantasy baseball keeper league. It's a pretty basic head to head points league. I'm currently in first place, and I obviously have my sights set on the championship. I have Carlos Santana as my catcher, he hasn't been terrible (decent power and a lot of walks) but his average is concerning. I love his upside, especially with this being a keeper league. Recently another owner who has a pretty bad record and is looking to improve his team for next year offered me a Victor Martinez for Santana straight up in a trade offer. Thoughts on a Santana for Martinez swap?

Wow

That’s a tough one. I’ve heard many people say that Santana is the next V-Mart. Normally, when you can trade “The Next Player X” for “Player X” himself, you do it. This is a little trickier though, because V-Mart is getting a little older. You also need to worry about Catcher-eligibility for V-Mart (though he’s not in danger right now). I’d say if you want to concentrate on THIS year, then do the deal. If you care more about next year and the following 5-7 years, don’t do the deal.

Essentially, if you can win without V-Mart this season, then I wouldn’t do the deal. If you think that V-Mart is enough to put you over the top for this season (and this season only), then do the deal but know that you’re throwing away the future at the Catcher position.

I’m sure that doesn’t help at all.

depends on how many keepers you are allowed

<5 keepers, do it, you shouldn’t be keeping either of these players for next year. >5 keepers don’t, because Santana should be better than Martinez next year and forward and they would both be borderline keepers at that point.

I think if your looking to win it all this year then you defently should.

because vmart is hitting like .330 compared to santanas .240. if u wanna win this year id do it

I think keeper limit is what determines this

I think V-Mart will outproduce Santana this year, next year, and the following year will be about the same. Basically in a 10 keeper or more league, that is not enough time to find a replacement keeper so I wouldn’t do it in that situation.

keep santanna. unless he is willing to throw in something else.

most catchers dont have great averages. and if this is a keeper league. santanna will be better for the next few years
