Trade Advice

14 team, 5X5 Roto-Keeper League with 30 man rosters and a $300 salary cap. You are allowed to keep 3-6 players from your team. Players kept from the previous year get $3 added to their salary for the following year. I am having a very tough time trying to decide what to do with this offer. I float from 5-9th place in this league and am not sure I could make a run at this year's title anymore. Below is the offer I received with the player's salaries. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

I trade: Ichiro Suzuki ($18), Delmon Young ($17) & Paul Konerko ($16)

I receive: Carl Crawford ($38), Mariano Rivera ($14) & Logan Morrison ($5)

Let me know what you think. Any additional information that would help I would be happy to provide. My main concern is trading away Konerko's production for Crawford's potential.

what are your needs?

I like Konerko at $16, but wonder how long he can keep this up at his age. Morrison and Rivera are enticing at their prices.

Right now

My weakest categories are W, ERA & WHIP. I am tied for 3rd right now in saves and 8 behind the leader in the category who happens to be the team offering me Rivera.

I am basically middle of the pack in most offensive categories.

playing for the future?

Take potential over production especially when the production is from a 35 year old masher and a 37 year old slap hitter. Morrison at $5 makes the deal more worthwhile, similar production as Young but much cheaper. Your worst case scenario in this is that you trade away the players you are getting in this trade. But you are getting the better end of this deal.

I’m not super high on any of the players they want from you so I feel this would be a good trade to flip into another trade. You’re getting the better deal… if you feel you can trade Crawford (he’s not cost effective at $38…or, I guess $41… for next year)… and Rivera (age)… Morrison would be the freebie.

If you feel like you have a shot, keep what you have. If not, start building next year’s team on the cheap.

Thanks for everyone’s insight. I decided to roll the dice and do the trade. Getting Rivera and getting rid of Delmon Young is what pushed me towards accepting. I am hoping that I am trading Konerko just as his hot streak ends and getting Crawford right as his hot streak begins. I still am interested in what people’s thoughts are so if you have any please share.
