Completed trade thoughts
Hey guys, Just completed a trade im pretty happy with and would like your guys thoughts on it. Some background on the league, 6x6 h2h keeper league im currently 2 and 3 with my pitching basically winning my games for me. I have a solid team but they just all seem to be slumping at the same time for me or on the DL. I have to name a few guys, Pedroia, Zimmerman, Dunn and McCutchen that are struggling or hurt.
My pitching like I said has been my strong point, having Josh Johnson, Greinke, Jackson, Masterson, Bailey and Dempster (whose starting to turn it around hopefully)
Anyways, I wanted another bat in the lineup that I could basically count on all year to get me solid stats. So I targeted AGon
The trade ended up being
I get:
AGon, Danks, Tabata
for
JJ, Masterson, Rios, and Ike Davis + Drew Pomeranz
--------------------
What do you guys think? Obviously it hurts to give up JJ but he is injury prone, Masterson has been lights out this year but I feel like it cant last forever and its basically a push with Danks with Danks having a little more upside in the K department. Rios is what he is and Ike Davis will hurt alittle bit, but Agon more than makes up for him plus Dunn will eventually come around.

I tend to agree.
Breaking to down piece by piece:
Adrian Gonzalez for Ike Davis+Drew Pomeranz seems almost fair to me. Davis is still a bit of an unknown but has shown more power thus far than Gonzalez in 2011. There’s the chance that he’s equal to Gonzalez this year (because we still don’t know who he’ll be in Boston. He should be better, but we don’t KNOW) but the equalizer is Pomeranz, who might be a top 10 pitching prospect.
Then you’ve got Tabata and Rios. Both are unknowns, both provide steals from an outfielder position. I would tend to lean towards Rios because he is a known quantity playing for the White Sox. I think eventually every struggling White Sox hitter is going to go on a tear.
So essentially you’ve traded Josh Johnson and Justin Masterson for John Danks. Even if you won the A-Gonz part of the deal, you haven’t won it enough to justify Josh Johnson for John Danks.

I see it differently
to me, it is AGonz for JJ-stud pitcher for a stud hitter
then its Masterson, Rios, Davis and Pomeranz for Danks and Tabata…..seems too much for those two.

JJ is a top 3 fantasy pitcher when healthy
Sure he has some injuries in his past but the fact is he isn’t hurt now and is pitching as if he’s the best in the game. The amount of guys who can combine his K/9, BB/9, HR/9, and any other stat are few and far between. Missing last September was precautionary rather than a real injury so he has been relatively healthy the past 2 seasons. The Marlins didn’t want to take any chances with him after signing him for 4 years and I don’t blame them.
Masterson has more K upside than Danks. Danks has 0 upside. He will give you just under 7 per 9. No more, no less. Masterson has posted a K/9 of 8.28 in the majors, nearly a full K more than Danks’ career high. At the worst from Masterson you will get what he has given you this year, which is right on par with Danks’ career norm. Masterson is one of the best ground ball pitchers around and if he can keep his current BB/9 while bringing the K/9 up, he would be able to maintain his strong play and If he’s really lucky become a little bit less than what Brandon Webb used to be.
Rios is Tabata with power and a bit less speed and AVG. The age difference brings this close to being a draw. Rios works best for winning now, Tabata is still a prospect in terms of fantasy.
Gonzalez is a great pick up and maybe a touch more valuable than JJ but I don’t think he is that much better to justify giving up those secondary players.

Oh man
You gave up Johnson? That is rough brotha. I love A-Gon and think he will produce.. You may need to shop for a Starter or two tho.

Not rough at all
I would take the hitter over the pitcher any day of the week, except for sometimes Sunday when Francona benches his position players. That’s another rant, though.
it's tough
because so many leagues are different. Last year the team that won it in my league ( lost in the damn championship) beat me with a team of Halladay, Verlander, Price, Kershaw, and Lee. He got Kershaw and Price low because they were newer and Lee low because he was with Seattle when drafted. I had better hitting in Miggy Cabrera, Hanley Ramirez, Jason Werth, McCutchen, Stanton and even solid pitchers in Lincecum, Latos and Josh Johnson… in fact I lost because Johnson got hurt.
Basically you either stack up pitching in my league or stack up hitting and take chances on lower named guys… I stacked up hitting this year instead of trying to mix and match and so far my pitching started off great but has crumbled since.
