(When) To Trade Jered?
So, this past offseason in my 12-team long-term keeper league, I traded Neil Walker for Jered Weaver. Obviously, Weaver is a giant, radioactive fantasy monster right now, but will his value ever be higher? My current pitching staff beyond JW stands at Mat Latos, Tommy Hanson, Jeremy Hellickson, Alexi Ogando, Carlos Carrasco (may be dropped next FA pickups, in 12 days, depending on seriousness of injury), and Wandy Rodriguez, with Johnny Cueto and Randy Wells on the DL, and Jarrod Parker, Jordan Lyles, and Mike Montgomery in the minors. I feel like my staff can stand on its own w/o Weaver, especially once Cueto and Wells return, and Latos settles in and his bad luck fades.
I can definitely use offensive help at 1B (Trumbo and Napoli keeping it warm for Kendrys to come back), 3B (no depth behind Chipper at all), and help at RP, since I just lost Neftali Feliz and Jose Contreras over the weekend, so do I deal Weaver now? Do I wait a few more weeks and see if he sustains this level, then deal him? Or hold on to him and keep him as the anchor of my rotation for years to come, and try to deal off one or two of my other SPs? And if you deal Weaver, what would you accept in return? I've also got Eric Hosmer and Wil Myers as potential big trading chips if I decide to sell out and throw the kitchen sink at winning this year.

Weaver
you keep him unless you get first round talent for him. No reason to deal him unless you are overwhelmed. Try to trade Wandy or Hellickson if you can.

Difficult to define "first-round talent" in our league...
but let’s replace it with “freeze-level talent” and see where that gets us. I would 100% be able to get a freeze-level player, perhaps even with a nice prospect thrown in. So on that note, what sort of player(s) would you accept for Weaver?
A-Rod? Prince plus a prospect or RP? I’m really torn about this, because Weaver is easily a top-10 SP, but I have so many other good young SPs and I would love to add one more big bat to make a push this year.

List the team that has Cargo on it
he is struggling bad right now. Maybe you can package Weaver and an outfielder for him and one of the other guys higher end Starters. He’s the best player I know right now that you could possibly pry away from an upset owner when Cargo will get his numbers.

Hi There!
That would be me. :D
And I’m not really struggling at all, I’m within easy striking distance of 1st, and I have CarGo underperforming, as well as Latos and a couple others, so I’m confident those numbers will be there over the whole season, but I would really like a big-time insurance bat to put me over the edge.

nice man
It’s hard to give input on players to persue when I can’t see your leagues rosters haha. But goodluck with whatever you do. Be careful on trading Jered b/c he is a legit top 5 pitcher in baseball. I too have Cargo as well as Stanton, Alvarez and Carpenter who are all underachieving right now. Thankfully Tulo, Heyward, Ryan Howad, Pablo Sandivol my catchers (Wieters/Montero) and my other big time pitchers (JDLR just got his 4th win tonight, Chacin, Beckett etc) are picking up the slack. Stanton is starting to break out a bit especially with teh 475 footer he hit against the Rox the other day. If Gallardo and Carpenter can pick it up for me I will start to run away with first place in my league. Right now I’m in first by about 25 points. Tomorrow I got Gallardo, Beckett and Chacin going so I expect my overall points to jump ahead quite a bit.

Keep Jered.
He is by far your best SP. Even though he is young, he is far more established than the rest of your starting pitching, which is boom or bust at this point. Hellickson/Latos/Hanson are loads of potential, but that’s all your seeing them as; potential. Weaver is here now and here to stay. Don’t trade him for a 1B of the future, you’ve already got that in Hosmer and there’s plenty of 1B bats that will crop up during the season. And you would never want to trade him for ANY relief pitcher. Unless you package him with another player to get someone like Longo, I’d hold tight.

Nice jump to a conclusion
This is an extremely competitive and deep league. The Weaver/Walker trade was a points-cutting trade for the other guy, which happens often in the offseason with high-pointing players. Speculative trades for young, low-pointing players, especially at premium positions, open up availability and points that can be used in our pre-draft waiver draft.
Though I don’t expect you’d understand that sort of thing.
ahh that makes more sense
my mistake…and contrary to popular believe I can understand that sort of thing!
