Minor League Monitor: Jesus Montero Is Hitting Like A Deity, Julio Teheran Makes AAA Debut, International League Review plus Bryce Harper's Slump Continues
Jesus Montero has been on fire, batting .480 with 3 doubles and a home run. If he keeps hitting like this the Yankees will have no excuse to keep him down.
Alex Presley has been impressive going 12-24 with a double, triple, home run and two stolen bases.
Looking to rebound from a down year, Jordan Parraz is red hot batting .455 with a double, triple and two home runs.
Rudy Owens surprise surprise didn't walk anybody over 7 innings. He gave up a single run on a home run and struck out 6.
Gookie Dawkins continues to hit, compiling a .429 AVG with 3 doubles and 2 home runs.
Jason Kipnis is having trouble getting out of the gate in his first AAA stint. He is batting .176.
Jenrry Mejia pitched 6 scoreless frames giving up 3 hits, 2 walks and striking out 6.
Lonnie Chisenhall has only 5 hits in 21 at bats but all 5 hits have been for extra bases. He has 4 doubles and a home run.
Scott Sizemore is showing why he's still a prospect worth watching by hitting .385 with a double, a home run and three walks.
Tom Milone lasted 7 innings without allowing a run. He walked none, gave up 5 hits and struck out 4.
Rays prospect Alex Cobb pitched 5 strong innings giving up a single run on 3 hits and 2 walks while fanning 7.
Zack Cozart has been dreadful going 1-16.
With Manny out of the picture Desmond Jennings could get called up soon. He is doing his part by hitting .348 with a double, a home run, 2 stolen bases and 5 walks.
Chase D'Arnaud is having a solid season batting .381 with 2 doubles, 2 triples and 3 walks to a single strikeout. I had a chance to watch him play the other day and he looked very good. A bit of pop in his bat and solid D.
Mike Minor was back with the Gwinnett Braves and pitched 6 innings in his first start back. He struck out 9, walked 1 and gave up 2 runs on 6 hits.
Stefan Gartrell has been on fire with a .368 AVG, 4 doubles and a home run in 6 games.
Andrew Oliver now has 2 strong outings under his belt. He has pitched 12 innings with a 2.25 ERA on 7 hits, 3 walks and 14 punchouts. He was in command during the game I watched him pitch. The Tigers could have another solid arm in their rotation real soon.
Dillon Gee had a much better second start of the season. He lasted 7 frames giving up a single run. His season ERA is now 4.63 in 11.2 innings.
Julio Teheran made his AAA debut lasting 5.2 innings giving up 2 hits, 2 walks, 1 run and struck out 3.
Andrew Lambo has struggled mightily having managed only a single hit in 20 at bats. He has struck out 11 times with 2 walks.
Jair Jurrjens won his rehab start. He lasted 6 innings allowing 2 earned runs and struck out 3.
Bryce Harper watch: Just as quickly as Harper's bat woke up it fell back asleep. He had 2 hits on Monday before going 0-4 Tuesday with 3 strikeouts. He is batting .211 with 4 singles and 2 walks. He has struck out 7 times in 5 games. Not exactly the 80 power threat we thought we would see but it's still early. Harper clearly has a target on his chest so every pitcher will be giving him 110%.

Montero
I think that was an overreaction. It will be curious if he is traded this year or not, because at some point he has to get called up for good.

Why do peopl e say *if* he is traded
I have no doubts that he will be traded at the July 31st deadline for an arm.
good point
but he has been offered in at least 2-3 deals in the past and has not been traded yet.

Montero
Between Russell Martin and Jorge Posada, the chances of injury or a prolonged slump are such that Montero could be up sooner rather than later. This is a bat that NY wants in their lineup. I could see them trading Montero for a pitcher, but I think they’d be smart not to.
