5th in the Mariners
Ok so we all know now that Pineda will be the 5th starter in the Mariners rotation. That means his raw talent will get a chance to shine. Now lets look at Pineda's stats and break down how he may do this year.
Back in AAA ball for the Mariners in 2010 Micheal had a 10.97 K/9 in a total of 62.1 innings pitched. I'm guessing in the bigs Pineda will have a K/9 of 9.7 which will give him a good sum of 115 strikeouts. I factored in the 107 IP he's projected to throw. You could compare Pineda with Dan Hudson last year, almost equivalent stats.
What is interesting though is that Pineda had a 2 year drought of IP. He rarely played from 2009-2010 (introduced in 2008 for single-a ball), but you can see he's slowly moving forward to more innings meaning that something big is coming.
He has a high 90's fastball that I'm looking forward to watching and I've seen a fair amount of spring training footage on him. He's a must for the watchlist, but is he worth the pickup for right now or should you wait it out?
7 Wins 5 Losses
A trimmed ERA under 4.0 but do expect some rough patches along the way
115 Strikeouts, this will most likely max out at 150
