Keeper League Trade
I have been offered the following trade in a keeper league (no salaries or contracts - just keep 15 from your MLB roster each year).
I give: Ubaldo Jiminez and Alex Rios
I get: Adrian Gonzalez and Wade Davis
I have Prince Fielder already at 1B so one of them would take up a Utlity spot. My OF is very young with Heyward, Stanton, Bruce, Stubbs, and Rios but has potential to be very good. My only two SB guys are Stubbs and Rios so I would effectively be punting that category if I do this deal. My starters are in good shape so I can absorb the loss of Ubaldo. I just am not really excited about Davis and am worried that my team 'balance' might be thrown off if I do the deal.
Thoughts?

my thoughts
This is a tough one. If you can afford to lose Ubaldo, then getting Wade back in return just lessens that loss a bit (with high upside). You’re essentially trading an OF for a 1B. I understand that you’ll be punting SBs if you trade Rios, but AGon is going to put up monster numbers at Fenway. He has never played for a lineup like that. I see him putting up MVP-type numbers (though he may or may not win the award). I would do this trade, knowing that you can search for speed guys on the waiver wire. Keep your eyes open for if Eric Young Jr gets traded and find a spot on a team who is willing to start him – he can get you 50-60 SBs, albeit with a low AVG.
Disclaimer: I’m a Red Sox fan.
Thanks for the thoughts
I am on the fence with this deal.
I sent him a quick counter offer of Rios and Anibal Sanchez to see where he was at with his thinking (He has Votto and Dunn also and is a huge Reds fan so Gonzalez is the guy to go and should get a big return for him).
He thought I was trying to screw him over but really, if my team didn’t have Fielder, then I would do that deal in an instant, but as it is I just don’t know that just because I can do the deal, doesn’t mean that I should do the deal…

Agree with Ray.
You are giving up too much. People think gonzalez on The Red Sox will be money in the bank, but he just had shoulder surgery. Not the sure thing people think.
However, if you can flip A-Gonz to one of those overzealous Red Sox fans, it might be an overall gain for you.
I would stand pat
If you had a favorable deal on the table for Fielder which would bring back pitching/SBs, then maybe, but otherwise I’d reject it.
I think you would be making a huge mistake
not accepting this trade. Ubaldo is good. Don’t get me wrong. But he only contributes to 3 categories. Adrian contributes very strongly in 4 categories. Rios is a weak player, and to me, is weaker than Wade Davis as a pitching prospect. Wade Davis is going to bounce back strong this year. And, although he wont match Jiminez’s overall numbers, he could very well come close in wins. Rios wont touch what AGon will do. I think people are grossly underestimating what Adrian is going to do this year. A much more hitter friendly field in Fenway, playing 9 games at Yankee stadium alone will boost his stats. Let alone having great table setters in front, and protection behind him. Hmm… Crawford, Pedroia, and Youklis or Hairston, eckstein, and headley… He’s gonna be HUUUGe.
PS Im a yankees fan saying this.
UPDATE
A counter offer that he is currently examining is:
I give Ubaldo / Rios / Stephen Drew / Round 2 Draft pick (2012)
I get A. Gonzalez / Jose Reyes
This would provide me enough to pull the trigger I think – the other owner isn’t so sure yet and has some other offers out to other managers for Gonzalez so we will see what additional feedback comes from this.
Thumbs up or down on the counter offer?
sure, no problem - might help
(We just completed our draft this past weekend also so this is the full team with keepers and drafted players)

Wow, you were not kidding.
Your pitching is strong, even without Ubaldo.
Who would replace Rios in your OF?
Can you get a spped guy from the waiver wire?
Bourjos and Michael Brantley come to mind.
Eh
I actually like the first offer you got more than this one. Reyes hasnt been a premiere player for a couple years now. Losing a 2nd rd pick and ubaldo? Thats a lot. I dont think reyes is enough to make up for that.
