Last minute draft prep: h2h AL only, no keepers

I have my draft tomorrow at 4:30 central time in my AL only league.  I was give pick #9 out of a 10 team snake draft.  I'm not sure what to expect but I am certain none of the big names will fall far.  Anyway, does anyone know of any last minute roster moves by AL teams that I could use?  I am going mainly by kffl and mlbdepthcarts.com.  This is my league that is in it's seventh year with some returning players...the league was ranked #1 in the world on Sportsline a few years back, before they stopped ranking leagues.  So it's always nice to win it- I think I have won it twice and made the play-offs 4-5 times.

PS- this league has no keepers.  It's a points league with standard sportsline rosters and scoring.  Pitching is very shallow in AL only leagues so I may have to do directly to alternating pitchers and hitters with my picks.  Is Youkilis worthy of a #9 pick considering he will be 3b eligible in a couple weeks?  I'm thinking my first two picks may be Youkilis and either Lester or CC.  Thoughts?

#9

isn’t too early to pick Youkilis. I’d rank him around 12 in AL only so 9 isn’t a big reach and Lester or CC would be a good second pick.

Erik Bedard has a spot in the Mariners rotation and has looked good in spring so he could be a real steal late in the draft.

Not Pretty

CC and Lester were gone early. Cano and Yuk came to me at pick 9 but I knew the guy picking 10 likes ARod and the Yanks in general. Thinking that Cano would not be available at pick 12 but maybe Yuk would be, I decided to take Cano with my first selection. The guy who had the #10,11 picks took Teix and Arod. So I then took Yuk. I did not want to pick Teix because he is such a slow starter, although ARod and Teix may have been how they were selected anyway- I just had my doubts at the time. At my #3 and 4 picks I took Feliz and Buchholz. Probably too early to yake a closer but I was hoping it would start a run on them- it didn’t. Buchholz was, by this time, the only decent starting pitcher on the board besides Phil Hughes so I had to take him IMO. I should have just grabbed Hughes and then hoped to pick up Buchholz with the next pick and wait for a closer. My starting pitching is weak, just like many other areas of my team. Oh well.

Nice job

Starters are not that bad for AL only. If Bedard can stay healthy (haha) and Arrieta if just good I think your good there. I rank my pitchers as 1-5. With no solid 1, you do have a good 2 in Buch, Romero is a good 3, Cahill good 4 Arrieta and Bedard are 5’s. Hitting you have above avg power, NO speed, if you make a trade for speed and R. Davis maybe. I would say you did a good job overall. I like Willingham if JD or Quentin gets hurt.

thanks

Yeah if I get anything positive out of Quentin, JD and Bedard- and if Mitch Moreland comes through- I may have a shot at making the playoffs. This a points league which doesn’t favor speedy players as much as it does bashers who get walks. Unless a guy is a 20/20 type, speed will only make a marginal difference in points once you are out of the top 30 or so hitters.
