Did I Just Get Fleeced? Just traded Jose Bautista..
16 team keeper league (15 keepers)..
I dealt:
3B Jose Bautista,
SP Tim Hudson
SP Juan Nicasio(1 yr minor)
CP JJ Putz
I Get:
OF Angel Pagan
C Jonathan Lucroy(1 yr minor)
SP Clay Bucholz
----------------------------
My reasoning: Is simple.. After winning the title in 09, reaching the finals and being 1 day away from the repeat in 10 and reaching the semis this past year, my team is really thin especially compared to some of the stacked teams in the league... Not only has this league gotten a lot better but every team is a hard-*ss when it comes to making deals.. As long as Holliday, Cabrera and Bucholz produce somewhat, this still gives me a prayer come playoff team if I can stay in.. Otherwise, I have options to even get younger..
Rest of roster basically
1B Pena 2B Espinosa(M), SS Aybar, 3B R. Roberts, Jedd Gyorko(B), OF- BJ Upton
P- D. Hudson(M), A. Sanchez, A. Ogando, R. Nolasco, J. Collmenter
RP- Marmol, Motte
Only really Nick Franklin, Bryce Brentz and perhaps Adrian Salcedo as any minors with any value...

You kind of got hosed
Not only are you trading one of the game’s best players, but you’re trading a very good C, a fairly reliable source of saves and an interesting minor league arm. I don’t think you’re getting even close to good value here. With that many keepers, you’re almost in a dynasty league and Holiday, while good, is too old to be a good return for a rebuilding team. You want the centerpiece of a trade package to be someone like Eric Hosmer – someone who can not only help you this year, but will retain value over the foreseeable future. Holliday has almost certainly peaked in value.
Yes
you traded the #3 player in fantasy baseball for, well, what you traded him for.
You got Kenny Williamsed

I would not have traded Bautista.
You gave up one of the top 5 players in baseball and two more of the best players on your team (Montero & Putz). Holliday is good and about the same age as Bautista, but being able to use him as a 3B makes Bautista much more valuable. And, I’d be very surprised to see M.Cabrera have the same numbers he had in 2011. My league has 12 teams and 12 keepers. Lucroy and Pagan wouldn’t even be keepers in our league, but 15 keepers for 16 teams forces you to use some mediocre players. On the other had, you’ve done pretty well during the past few years, so . . . . . Good Luck!
I agree
with bgoat33 here…..and I like Hudson over Buchholz too.
Going forward, ask us before you make the deal.

Just Pulled off a second deal
Dealt: Josh Collmenter, Bryce Brentz(M), 1-13 FA draft. pick, rd 6 rd 8, and 1rst and 2nd round future picks
for
Paul Konerko, Mathew Lika(M), round 1-2 FA draft pick, and rds 9 and 10, 4th and 5th future picks…
Now obviously I’ve given up a ton here but all of a sudden my team now looks like this..
C- Lucroy
1B- Konerko
2B- Espinosa
3B- Roberts
SS- Aybar
OF- Holliday, B. Upton, Melky Cabrera
UT- Pagan
SP- Daniel Hudson(M), Clay Bucholz, Anibal Sanchez, Alexi Ogando, Ricky Nolasco
RP- Motte, Marmol
-—————————
Noteable players available in FA draft…
Alexis Rios, Ryan Madson, CJ Wilson OR Jose Valverde, Michael Cuddyer, Wandy Rodriguez, Jake Peavy
Note while I’m not overly enthused about the prospects of Rios returning to 2010 form, if I can add him to the team I’ve already got, I’ve still got a chance in 2012 with an 8 team playoff system (In 09 I won the championship as the 7 seed, made finals in ‘10 as 6 seed) And really that could be the worse case scenario picking Rios, as really CJ Wilson would be the consensus pick for me if dropped.. He’d be a nice replacement for Tim Hudson (back concerns also, btw), while having Clay Bucholz to boot.
Also while I may have undervalued having a true superstar, prospects and future picks.. This league has gotten a lot more competitive, and there’s no weak links when it comes to trading, heck I’m beginning to think I’m the weak link.. But almost all teams are extremely reluctant to give up hitting or young prospects… Also, players like T. Hudson, Putz, and Montero are all very good, but are hard to net a definite offensive threat.. And with the talent pool I had, while I had many spare parts, I didn’t have nearly enough to have a prayer in 2012. Now even if 2012 doesn’t start off well… I have chips can suddenly deal the Holliday’s, Konerko’s, Cabrera’s, A. Sanchez’, Ogando’s, Motte’s
and Marmol’s and even the BJ Upton’s and Erick Aybar;s of the world…
Re. the future picks..
While future picks are extremely valuable, when I’ve looked at it, I’ve really done just as well picking at the end of the futures draft as I have at the beginning.. While I’ve gotten safe arms like Jair Jurrjens and Daniel Hudson in the first round, I’ve also been fortunate to get players such as Ian Kinsler, Trevor Cahill, Michael Pineda, Michael Bourn in the 4th and 5th rounds in years past..

are you trying to make your team worse?
i mean no sarcasm but why would you go through the trouble of adding buchholz and pagan only to trade them? you are a matt holliday injury away form missing the playoffs.
plus i dont see the point of trading away a player like buchholz for a draft pick when you will be forced to draft a pitcher of similar value…lets say wilson gets taken with pick 1 or pick 2 of the first round…then you are basically trading buchholz for oswalt or wandy…(goodbye 27 year old hello 32-34 year old). same goes for marmol..you can trade him for a pick then hopefully draft madson and get similar results…just seems like you are taking unnecessary risks.
all i can say is if you can get wilson, baker and swisher you will break even…and i dont think that will happen.

I'm not sure any of these deals are working in your favor
As stated above, your best-case scenario seems to be breaking even.
Made another deal
Dealt
Matt Holliday
Carlos Pena
Rd 7 pick
RD 8 pick
Received:\
Matt Cain
Sergio Santos
RD 1 (12) pick
Rd 10 pick
Actually think this is the best deal I’ve made.. I myself was a llittle disappointed in the other 3 days I’ve made at second glance.. Last year I was able to add depth as well having 4 picks in the top 7(picked Tim Hudson, JJ Putz, whiffed on Franklyn Guttierez and got Anibal Sanchez at 7.. As said above though I’m probably not gonna net an Anibal Sanchez like pitcher at 7..
But right now my team looks like this…
C Jonathan Lucroy
1B Paul Konerko
2B Danny Espinosa
3B Ryan Roberts
SS Erick Aybar
OF- BJ Upton, Melky Cabrera, JD Martinez
SP- Matt Cain, Daniel Hudson, A. Sanchez, Alexi Ogando, Nolasco
RP- Sergio Santos, Jason Motte
picks 1(2), 1(3), 1(7), 1(8), 1(12), 2(20) then all picks from the 7th on…
Was really looking to make this last deal mainly because if now enables me to add both Rios and Crisp.. or CJ Wilson.. But at any rate I’ll have some real nice depth after the first 6 picks at any rate..
oh boy
i dont know what bothers me more, the result of the first trade or alex rios and coco crisp being spoken about in the same sentence as cj wilson. since you mentioned minor league talent, im guessing this is a dynasty or a long term keeper with a minors that acts as a dynasty hybrid? to be honest, and i mean this in the nicest way possible, just pack it in for 2012. Id look to acquire the best available players to impact in 2013 and beyond. you certainly have the draft availability to execute this plan, and no one will see it coming.

Hopefully JD Martinez can be Matt Holliday-lite
Although he slowed down a little at the end of his stint last year.. Hopefully he can take advantage of that LF in Houston..
