Ranking the Prospects: Yu Darvish, Anthony Rendon, Gerrit Cole and Others
This question was posed by a Fake Teams reader in the recent Yu Darvish fan post that I promoted to the front page:
Draft Question for Dynasty Leagues
In most Dynasty leagues Moore is already owned so the question most owners have is who to draft.
Rank: Darvish, Bauer, Rendon, Cole, Hultzen, and Bundy
I’d go: Darvish, Rendon, Bauer, Cole, Hultzen then Bundy
How would you rank these 6 prospects heading into 2012 fantasy/dynasty league drafts?
I think I would rank them in this order for those in long term keeper/dynasty leagues:
Yu Darvish
Gerrit Cole
Dylan Bundy
I would rank the bat of Anthony Rendon over any pitcher on this list, as some say he will prove to be the best big leaguer out of the 2011 MLB draft. If he moves to second base, then his value moves even higher.
Darvish could become an ace, but I imagine he won't have a Fernando Valenzuela-like start to his major league career, but I do like him to be a top 20 starting pitcher in 2012.
My 2012 only rankings after the jump:
For those looking for rankings just for 2012:
Yu Darvish
Trevor Bauer
Danny Hultzen
Anthony Rendon
Gerrit Cole
Dylan Bundy
Darvish should be the 1 or 2 in the Rangers rotation this season, but I do not see them starting him on Opening Day. Both Bauer and Hultzen should see time in the big leagues in 2012, but I like Bauer a little better as he is the more dominating pitcher.
Let us know how you would rank them for 2012 only and for long term keeper leagues in the comments section.

Cespedes
Will also be available in most drafts where Darvish is around. Where does he slot in?
Cespedes
I would rank him below Darvish for 2012 and below Cole for long term keeper leagues. I am just not sold on how he will translate to the big leagues.

Agree with him lower
I would rank Cespedes below all of them. Great athlete and youtube video’s…. but how will this translate and he is not very young.
Profar
Ray I have pretty much the same thinking with the ranking, but for the past couple weeks I been constantly flip flopping Rendon and Profar.
Last week I preffered Profar but now I’m edging toward Rendon… Is this normal lol? They both could potentially be 2B down the line too.
Which players ceiling is higher and likely hood of teaching?
I like them both
as well, but would take Profar right now due to Rendon’s injury history. I think he should be fine as he should recover from his 2011 injuries, but Profar could be something special at shortstop.
I think Rendon has the higher likelihood of reaching his ceiling, and probably has the higher ceiling.

Profar is owned in most if not all dynasty leagues
That said, I like Rendon better. His injuries are not of the chronic type and he has less risk.
It's also Dylan Bundy
And it really depends on what you want. Bundy has a higher upside than a player like Hultzen. If you need stars, draft a Bundy, if you need players to compliment your stars, you draft a Hultzen.
If you want to say dumb things, you can't get mad when I call you dumb.
dylan bundy
don’t want to be picky, but aren’t we actually talking about dylan bundy. ranked in terms of ceiling, i would put
rendon
cole
darvish
bundy
bauer
hultzen
oops
you are correct. Sorry, it is Dylan Bundy.

Many of is are focusing on prospect drafts at this point, so cant get enough of this stuff. Would love to see an expanded conversation of these type of guys to include 2011 draft class and guys who burst on the minor league scene last season.
