Profar for Latos?
I'm considering a trade in a dynasty league where I would gain Mat Latos in return for Jurickson Profar. 40-man rosters, 16 teams, permanent keepers.
My current SS is Tulo, 2nd is Weeks, and my MI is Neil Walker. Rest of the offense is pretty good with Pujols, Longoria, Cargo, Holliday, Choo, M Montero,
Starting pitching (1475 innings max) is Verlander, Felix, Hamels, Garza, Beachy, Liriano, Morrow, and Peavy. Not a lot in the minors other than Andy Oliver. Relievers are Kimbrel, Mariano Rivera, Walden, Storen, and Frank Francisco. I would ideally like to trade Profar in a deal for a stud first baseman (to replace Billy Butler) but no such deals exists right now.
So, would you trade Profar for Latos, given all of this info, or hold on to Profar in hopes that A) He can replace Walker at MI in a few years or B) Wait to see what injuries happen and move him during the season

It's a weird league
This is going to be our 6th year, and what’s happened is you have 4 and maybe 5 teams legitimately in contention, 6 team in no-mans land (no future, not in contention now), and 5 teams legitimately rebuilding. The current ML talent has ended up with those top 4 or 5 teams. Even with that roster i was in 2nd place last year. First place team has Halladay, Haren, Cliff Lee, Teixieira, Cano, Bautista, Rollins, Konerko, Josh Hamilton, Utley, and others.
I had some pretty badass trades that led me here too.

damn.
feel bad 4 the no-mans land teams
sounds like a competitive league

no
you don’t need to make this deal. Save Profar for the first baseman later in the year….Profar’s star wioll continue to shine.

Do it
Profar’s a great prospect, but he’s still a prospect, and Latos has high upside to go with a major league track record. You can never have too much pitching.

Don't do it
.300/.400/.500 in the SALLY as a 18 year old is amazing. Latos, while having “high upside”, still will pitch half his games in that bandbox AND has a history of being a head case (which will NOT endear him to Dusty).

LOL at not trading an 18 year old
for a proven MLB ace. Does your league give awards for most highly-touted farm system?
Seriously, though, the problem here is that you simply don’t neet another pitcher. Flip Profar for a real need, or just hang onto him for now.
This is disingenuous
Profar is not just any 18 year old, and Latos is not an ace by any stretch of the definition.

well latos isnt really an "ace"
and he has more then enough at the pitcing position,
their really is no point in doing the trade

LOL
for a proven MLB ace.
yeah, ‘cause that’s Latos.

When you and LT are on the same page, I know I'm doing ok.
Latos has proven he can be an ace, so I stand by my point, even if you can nitpick what “ace” means.
More importantly, coming off a down year, he is still a consensus #25-30 fantasy pitcher. So, yeah, if you like admiring your prospect roster, hang onto Profar. If you ever want to win your league, trade him to a guy like Joel for a premium MLB player (though like I said: not a pitcher, you have no need there.)
I would think about it if there were no innings cap
but as is, you need to hold onto Profar unless you’re blown away by an offer.
by Robert L. Bishop on Dec 21, 2011 10:48 PM EST reply actions
Definitely not
Latos would slot behind Verlander/Hernandez/Hamels, so essentially you’re trading your most valuable, non-MLB trade chip for a #4 SP. No sense in that. Plus pitching depth is unnecessary and the value of the remaining pitchers will not be enough to land a top tier first baseman.
Profar value vs. current MLB players
I recently reluctantly parted with Profar & D.Holland for D.Hudson & Hultzen. It felt pretty balanced with Hultzen expected to return value before Profar hits MLB, even if the ceiling may not be as high.
Im not seeing it
Why again are you trading for another top SP with the rotation you all ready have now? It looks pretty solid to me so id probably hold onto Profar myself.
