Fake Teams Dynasty League Draft Results: Round 12

SEATTLE - SEPTEMBER 26: Justin Smoak #17 of the Seattle Mariners watches his three-run homer in the sixth inning against the Oakland Athletics at Safeco Field on September 26, 2011 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)

With this article, I am now caught up to where we are in the Fake Teams Dynasty League draft, as we are in the middle of the 13th round as of today. I don't know about you, but Round 12 seems to have better talent than Round 11 did. As has been the case in many rounds, the guy I wanted was taken a pick before me. I was targeting Justin Smoak as the round was unfolding, but Scott STOLE him from me!!! Haha.

Let's take a look at the picks in Round 12 with some of my thoughts after the jump:

Round 12 - $3 - 3 Years

Toronto Blue Jays - Brett Anderson - SP - Oakland Athletics
Los Angeles Dodgers - Lucas Duda - 1B/OF - New York Mets
Bronx Bombers - Jair Jurrjens - SP - Atlanta Braves
Texas Rangers - Ryan Roberts - 2B/3B - Arizona Diamondbacks
New York Mets - Jemile Weeks - 2B - Oakland Athletics
Boston Red Sox - Justin Smoak - 1B - Seattle Mariners
Fake Teams - Doug Fister -SP - Detroit Tigers
Miami Marlins - Emilio Bonafacio - 3B/OF - Miami Marlins
Atlanta Braves - Russell Martin - C - New York Yankees
Carl Winslows - Ricky Nolasco - SP - Miami Marlins
Tampa Bay Rays - Wandy Rodriguez - SP - Houston Astros
Anaheim Angels - Mike Minor - SP - Atlanta Braves
Brooklyn Nets - Martin Prado - OF - Atlanta Braves
Arizona Diamondbacks - Adam Lind - UT - Toronto Blue Jays
Colorado Rockies - Michael Cuddyer - IF/OF - Colorado Rockies
Oakland Athletics - Brandon Mccarthy - SP - Oakland Athletics

Star-divide

I have to say that there were a few solid pitchers on the table after my pick, and wonder if Doug Fister can come close to his second half performance last season. He showed me a lot in the playoffs. In the second half of 2011, Fister went 8-3 with a 2.47 ERA and 0.912 WHIP. After the trade to Detroit, he went 8-1 with a 1.79 ERA and 0.839 WHIP and an astounding K/BB rate of 11.40.

I like the Wandy Rod choice a few picks after mine, and thought about taking him, but Fister really intrigued me. Wandy will probably be traded this offseason, and definitely by July 31st, 2012, so hopefully for the Rays, he leaves for a better team and a better pitchers park.

The Rockies took newly signed outfielder Michael Cuddyer with the second to last pick in Round 12. Many think he will easily surpass his 2011 stats where he hit 20 HRs and drove in 70 runs. I am not so sure about that.

I love the Duda pick by the Dodgers with the second pick in the round. I think Duda can hit 25 HRs this season, and approach a .275-.280 BA.

Blame tcengel for Smoak getting "stolen"

I was targeting Duda and Smoak ended up my consolation prize. I was thinking about Fister too. He put up some large K games down the stretch in 2011 that make me wonder if he’s found a new approach/new pitch/new grip on an existing pitch or something.

:(

Sorry guys. It absolutely came down to Smoak vs Duda for me, and the only factor that let me decide on Duda was Citi’s walls being brought in and less of a threat behind him for playing time.

I really wanted Duda.

I almost took him the round before, and I wish I would have.

Yeah.

I was happy with where I got him, and also just generally THAT I got him.

Cuddyer

With his 2b eligibility and a repeat of last years numbers he becomes a really nice piece if he goes 20/70 in The NL…..

I forgot about the 2b eligibility.
