Prince Fielder

I’ve been the loyal Prince poster since #8 or #9 and will continue to do so. He took his game to another level in 2011 w/ the decrease in K’s.

Hanley Ramirez

Roy Halladay

A lot of good candidates here, like Ray alluded to. If you’re going to go pitcher, go with the best one: Roy Halladay.

220+IP every year since 2006
>5 K/BB every year since 2008 (7.30 in 2010, 6.29 in 2011)
Since joining Philly, his WHIP has been 1.04 twice, his xFIP has been under 3 both years, and he’s always had >50% GB and <1 HR/9.

He’s consistently elite, and there are absolutely no signs saying he should slow down. The difference between Kershaw and Halladay was miniscule, despite the Cy Young voting results. Kershaw could do that again, but Halladay probably will. Verlander is a great pitcher, and he will give you more strikeouts, but he’s not replicating that lucky ERA again (xFIP=3.12; nothing to sneeze at, but not Halladay) and he’s certainly not giving you 24 wins. Give me the sure thing.

NL-Only league drafts

could see Halladay, Kershaw and possibly Lee taken in the first round this year, as Fielder may follow Pujols to the AL, Braun may get suspended and Howard is probably out longer than Ruben Amaro Jr. is willing to admit (not that Howard is a first rounder). Plus, who knows if Hanley gets traded (rumors that the Red Sox are interested), and guys like David Wright and Chase Utley regressing due to injury.

It will be interesting for sure.

The last thing the Red Sox need is another good bat

From a Jays perspective anyways…

I'm interested to see how the league-specific ranks turn out.

I’ve started working on mine, and so far I think third base and especially catcher are stronger on the AL side, while the NL blows the AL out of the water for starting pitching. It’s certainly true that NL pitchers will have better run prevention numbers by virtue of facing 8-man lineups, but I expected the hitters to be more evenly matched. Wondering how the other positions look.

first base

is extremely thin in the NL with Pujols gone, Fielder a big question mark, and Howard injured.
