Fantasy Baseball 2011: Ranking Jason Heyward, Mike Stanton and Jay Bruce

Here's the rules - rank Jay Bruce, Jason Heyward, and Mike Stanton - consider this a keeper league with no contracts.  Standard offensive categories:  BA, OPS, R, HR, RBI.

Rank them based on a 3 year window starting this year.

Something for the comments section:  If Ryan Braun were added to the group, he would surely be #1 for this year - but, does he remain #1 for the next 2012 and 2013 or does someone from this group overtake him as potentially #1 OF in fantasy?  Note:  I am excluding Crawford and others for breavity.

Thanks for voting and for any comments.

I voted Heyward, Stanton, Bruce because I think Stanton will hit more HRs than Bruce and could hit for a similar BA….may get a 6-8 SBs as well.

on 2nd thought

Stanton stole 5 bases in 359 ABs last year. I think he can reach double figures in 2011.

I think Stanton has the most power potential of the group – but I think that Bruce is more of a .280 type hitter with 25 – 35 HR annually. Heyward is most rounded and all can be monsters I think.

Does Braun’s power dip continue or does he stabilize here or even rebound a bit? I think this year will be key for him to keep his top spot secure or some others can close the gap even more…

I agree

we need a 30 HR year from him to keep him in the 1st round, I think. Though, I think he may steal a few more bags this year and he hits .300 every year

Braun

He suffered due to that elbow injury after getting hit with a pitch last year. I think we will find that last year was a complete fluke and he’ll be back at the level expected of him – around 35 HR, .310 or so batting average, and a good number of steals. I’ve been kind of surprised at how low some people are drafting him this season.

me

I still think he is a first round pick and i think i ranked him as my #1 OFer….where is he getting drafted?

agree

I too agree that he is the #1 OF this year but injury or not in 2010, his power numbers have been declining every season since he came up. He needs to reverse that trend or people will be jumping off the bandwagon pretty quickly.

Heyward, Bruce, Stanton

I think Stanton will struggle a bit as pitchers get a book on him and start to exploit his weaknesses. If he adjusts quickly, with his power, he could be the best of the bunch.

If Braun is included, I’d rank him 1st for the the first two years, then 2nd behind Heyward in the 3rd.

Another question -

where does Justin Upton rank in this group? I’m tempted to put him 2nd after Heyward.

good question

Upton has the most SB potential of the group I would think so I guess it depends on how you value SB (that is a category too – forgot to put it in the question).

Personally I would rank them for the next three years as: Heyward, Upton, Bruce, Stanton… I think Upton, Bruce, and Stanton can all be flipped as they are very close over that period of time in my opinion.

and in the poll I voted for Bruce, Heyward, Stanton so its really close depending on how these guys go through their formative MLB years.

all depends on how fast Stanton adjusts to pitchers learning his weaknesses

I think Heyward has the most value over the next three years in an OPS league. Stanton and Bruce is a bit of a toss-up, but I have a little more confidence in Bruce’s contact tool and his substantially greater ML experience at this point. If Stanton adjusts quickly though…he could be dominant by year 2.
