Baseball predictions for 2011
Joe Sheehan, SIBreakout stars. We thrilled last season to the emergence of players such as Joey Votto, Carlos Gonzalez and David Price, all taking steps forward to become stars, even award candidates. Players who may make that leap in 2011 include Braves starter Tommy Hanson, Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler, A's starter Brett Anderson and Reds center fielder Drew Stubbs.
I will post something similar in 2011, along with sleepers and bust candidates. I agree with 3 of the 4 players he lists will breakout in 2011. Just not sold on Fowler yet. I've been wrong before.

I’m sure you can put together a better list than that guy- it’s hard to believe he’s getting paid by a major site for the info he tosses out. Tommy Hanson a breakout candidate? Seriously? Brett Anderson? That’s being pretty cautious of making predictions IMO. FWIW- I don’t see DF doing much in 2011 either- maybe league average is tops although he could add some extra sb’s. Saying the O’s will be the 2010 Padres is pretty ridiculous too- Just like saying the Padres will do horrible. I would be willing to bet the Pads win more games than the O’s in 2011.

I think he is saying these guys will become stars in 2011……not that they would be break out candidates, as each has already had a breakout season.
Yeah, Fowler doesn’t impress me , but he does have a nice walk rate and some fantasy experts see a jump in SB in 2011.

Interestingly, Fowler’s 2010 road OPS is over 300 points lower than that at home. And since his 5 sb performance game back in 2009, Fowler has had 31 sb’s while being caught 17 times. That ~breaks down to a road OBP that’s under .300 and a total (home+road) sb% of about 65% in some 900+ (home+road) plate appearances since his 5 sb game. And his walk rate dropped by nearly 50% the second half of last year compared to the pre All Star game stats.
road OBP...
….since the 5 sb game, I would guess Fowler’s road OBP is around .315 ish as opposed to under .300. No real stats to see for me though.
