Fantasy Baseball: Baseball Keeper League Trade Proposal
I recently submitted a trade in my 12 team mixed league Keeper League. The scoring is pretty standard H2H with typical categories (R, HR, RBI, SB, Errors, AVE, OPS, W, SV, SO, ERA, WHIP). We keep 15 players from our rosters each year - My team is as follows:
Fielders: Geovany Soto, Prince Fielder, Martin Prado, Gordon Beckham, Ryan Zimmerman, Stephen Drew, Alex Rios, Jason Heyward, Jay Bruce, Juan Pierre, Chris Coghlan, Andres Torres, Delmon Young.
Pitchers: Ubaldo Jimenez, Felix Hernandez, Justin Verlander, Phil Hughes, Clay Buchholz, John Danks, Scott Baker, Madison Bumgarner, Jason Hammel, Jair Jurrjens, Octavio Dotel, Jon Rauch.
The minor league guys can be stashed until they reach the major league service time and deemed MLB eligible by the league commish. Minor League: Mike Stanton, Jesus Montero, Eric Hosmer, Tim Beckham, Casey Kelly, Jemile Weeks, Tanner Scheppers, Aaron Crow, Jose Iglesias, Derek Holland.
I like my team - its young with lots of projection and some really good performers already headed into prime years. Starting pitching is my obvious strength and I tend to overvalue it. I was looking to really boost my offense with a blockbuster addition:
I give: Mike Stanton, John Danks, Stephen Drew, 2011 Round 1 Draft Pick
I get: Ryan Braun
The owner has the following OF players: Justin Upton, Andrew McCutchen, Ryan Braun, Carlos Gonzalez, Shin-Soo Choo, Desmond Jennings. He has a Middle infield need so he wants Drew but I know that I would have to wow him to come close to getting Braun (He informed me that Upton and McCutchen are untouchables for his team).
I have not gotten a response yet so I am patiently waiting - what do you all think? Is it a decent offer? Stanton's value is quite high in the league since its a keeper format.
Just thought I would see what some opinions were on it as I wait for his reply.

Braun Trade
Plus side is that there is a very good chance Drew gets traded and quite possible to an AL team (if your league continues with stats after a player is traded to the AL than this doesn’t really matter). I am super big on Stanton but Braun is a top ten guy. I would probably counter offer with the same trade minus the draft pick.
depends
are you trying to win this year? is the guy you offered the trade to not in the mix? if the answer to both is yes, then i think it is a good deal for both.
standings
currently in the league 8 of the 12 teams are at or above .500 which is very odd – in the past three seasons in which I have been in this league usually only the top 4 teams finish the year at or above .500.
Currently I am in 6th place and the guy I am trying to do the deal with is in 3rd. He finished 9th last year and missed the playoffs (his offense is amazing but he has no pitching – this year he has gotten on some guys like Jamie Garcia which have really given his team a boost). I finished 4th last year and feel confident that my current team can make the playoffs and do well if my hitters get hot at the right time…
I figure that Braun’s value is about as low as it will be so was trying to make a strong push for him and see if I could get it done. I think that by the end of the year, Braun’s value will be back up where it should be so trying to buy low I guess.
To me, if you’ve already made the offer, don’t think about if you could remove the pick. Cause one of two things is going to happen:
1) He’s going to reject it because he doesn’t feel it is enough, so removing the pick is likely to make it worse, not better
2) He’s going to accept it, and trying to pull back the pick right now isn’t going to work either.
If he does reject it, I would try to see what it would take to get Carlos Gonzalez from him. I get the impression that we may be discussing in 2011 whether or not he could pass Braun as the top outfielder.
He rejected... his counter offer
He countered with the following:
I give up: Jason Heyward and John Danks
I receive: Ryan Braun
I don’t know how I feel about the counter offer… anyone have thoughts on it?
just a thought
Is Heywards upside enough for me to reject the trade
OR
Is Heyward’s likely couple short stints on the DL per year something I should factor in as a limiting factor?
