Rate these 1B for keepers
I'm looking to rebuild for next year and I want to get a rock at 1B that I can count on for across-the-board production (well, except SB) for the next 4-5 solid years. How would you rate the following?
(In alphabetical order)
Prince Fielder
Adrian Gonzalez
Mark Teixeira
Joey Votto
Keep in mind it's a 12-team 5x5 roto league that allows 6 keeps each year, if that adds any context. Three more words.

Not that any of them are bad, clearly. Votto is the only one that will also provide you with SB as well.

I just get sick of Teixeira’s slow starts. And Votto had that dizzy spell issue last year that I don’t think was ever figured out- they just kinda went away. That takes away from his long term value a bit IMO. Between Fielder and Gonzalez, I like Gonzalez because he could not play in a worse park for a worse offensive team. Yet he hangs in there, year after year. I had to take a double take when I seen Prince had 38 rbi’s on the season- nearly 90 games into 2010. That’s amazing. But he’s still my #2 on the list.
yeah, you have to believe Prince’s RBI #‘s are a rare anomaly. Especially after seeing that Rickie Weeks has 14 more RBI on 4 less HR despite batting 1st or 2nd and having an almost identical batting average. I think there are mountains of evidence that would suggest that Fielder’s RISP struggles are the result of SSS, and he’d probably be expected to be around 55-60 right now based on other numbers.
Votto
I think his dizzy spells are gone. has there been a reoccurrence this year? he also had issues with depression last year, but that coincided with his father passing away, so that should be a non-issue going forward.
Votto is #1 for me as he is putting it all together this year. Votto’s BA pushes him ahead of the others in my opinion.

Votto
If I knew Votto was A-OK I might push him toward the top. Maybe not ahead of Adrian but closer to a tie with Prince. It’s just real hard to move Votto ahead of either of them when they both have hit the 40 spot in homers and Votto might do that for the first time this year, might not. Votto’s ahead of Teix because of the avg/ obp/ slg and a nice start. If he keeps things up he’ll end up with the best year of the 4. We’ll just have to see.
Apples and Apples
I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with any of them over the long term so I’l just break down pros and cons.
Votto- Pro’s: Age(27 at the end of the season), Production in all 5 categories, Ballpark, lineup, 2nd best 1B right now. Cons: Depression, Might be career year.
A-Gon: Pro’s: Power has trended up 4 consecutive years, all signs point to him ending up in Boston. Cons: Current ballpark and lineup, average has trended downward last 4 years, slightly streaky.
Teixeira: Pro’s: Ballpark and lineup, you know where he’s gonna be for the rest of his career, Might be the easiest to trade for at this point. Cons: Oldest, Can you handle slow slow start every season?, Bad season for 1st round pick.
Fielder: Pro’s: Youngest, Might be even easier to trade for than Tex if owner is playing for this year. You know your going to get the HR’s. Chance he ends up as Yankees DH for next 10. Cons: Body, Lineup, Poor production this season, Worst Average of the group.
This is the Texas Rangers, professional destroyers of hope, we're talking about. - BAC
order
1. Votto – far and away the best of this group
(big space)
2/3. Gonzalez/Fielder – whichever one gets traded to a hitter-friendly park takes 2nd place, with the other taking 3rd. Yes I know, I don’t see Gonz getting traded this year either.
4. Teixeira – starts slow and now has his contract so he doesn’t look like he cares as much. Only saving grace is that he will always have an all-star team around him.
