MLB Trade Rumors: Derrek Lee To The Angels??
In a recent article by Fred Mitchell and David Kaplan from the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs are discussing a deal that would send first baseman Derrek Lee to the Angels. Here is the excerpt from the Chicago Tribune:
Excellent baseball sources are telling us the Angels and the Cubs may be involved in trade talks that could send Derrek Lee to L.A. The Angels lost their starting first baseman, Kendry Morales, last weekend when he broke his leg in a celebration after he hit a walk-off grand slam. Lee was a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup because of tightness in his right hamstring.
At this point, we don't know who the Cubs would be receiving from the Angels, or if the deal is a dump trade or not, but should Lee get dealt, one would assume Xavier Nady would see more time at first base for the Cubs. If Lee is dealt, I see it as a dump deal. The Cubs may be looking to get younger with the recent promotions of Starlin Castro and Andrew Cashner.
Lee is a free agent at the end of the season and is having a sub-par season for fantasy owners. Lee is hitting just .232-.339-.366 with 6 HRs and 23 RBIs in just under 200 at bats.
