Minor League Daily Update: Thursday 5/6/2010

Here is Thursday’s group of minor league players. Their statistics shown are for April 29 through May 5. Another quick update. See the stats after the jump.

A couple of quick notes on this groups’ performance this week:

Fernando Martinez came back from missing a few games with a sore back and hit a HR in his first return game. Needs to stay healthy.
Lars Anderson play all this week at AAA after being promoted. He is having a nice bounce back year after 2009’s downer.
Jason Donald continues to hit well down on the farm for Cleveland. I can see him making an appearance in the bigs at some point as he hits for average, some power and swipes some bags as well.
Mike Minor struck out 11 batters in his last start but allowed 3 BB in 5 IP and gave up 4 ER. Needs more consistency.
Matt Moore was 0-2 this week but K’d 17 batters in 11 IP. He now has 40 K’s in 26 IP but has also walked 19 thus far. Cut down on the walks and he will move quickly in the Tampa Bay farm system (not that there is any room with the big club in the near future and Hellickson is next in line as he is stuck dominating AAA). To give some perspective on the embarrassment of riches that the Rays have in their starting pitching – James Shields (the #1 guy) has the highest ERA at 3.05. Hellickson is 5-0 and stuck at AAA with a sub 3.00 ERA and can’t break in.
Alex White pitched well and now has 25 K in 25 IP.
