Reyes for Hill/Jaime Garcia
Just wondering what people's reaction to this trade is. To clarify, I'm building for next year and not worried about competing this year. I also have a wealth of young pitching including Gallardo, Latos, Matusz, Bumgarner, Homer Bailey, Nolasco and a few assorted others. I have no one at SS except for Reid Brignac...so I swapped out Aaron Hill and Jaime Garcia for Jose Reyes? I realize maybe I gave up more than I should have but I still think the upside of Reyes is extremely tantalizing. Thanks all!

Yeah Brignac is slotted there, and I have Eric Young, although he could be missing some time. The key thing is I inherited this team and have turned over 28/30 in order to compete in the future. I don’t care how I perform this year really… I’m really banking on the fact that SS studs are hard to come by and that Reyes is easily the best player in this deal and hardest to replace.
IF (big if) healthy, then...

Good plan IMO
Young is probably going to miss a few weeks I am guessing (thought I read that, but not sure where), and hopefully at some point in the next season they will finally install him as the starter. Which will be nice, as he has the potential to steal 50+ bases with full time playing time.
Young
Will Eric Young play enough 2B this year (or in the future) to stay eligible at the position, or is he going to be moved to the OF full time? If he has eligibility at 2B, he’s like a Jose Reyes-light.
I think that based on the way the team is built going forward for the Rockies, he seems likely to keep his eligiblity for a couple of seasons I think. In the outfield, their long term plans are around Carlos Gonzalez and Dexter Fowler, but I don’t recall anyone really being slotted in at 2B behind Barmes long term, and to me he’s a prolonged slump away from losing his job again.
Reyes
ius definitely the best player in the deal….on paper. He does come with some risk due to his injury history. Moving him to the 3rd spot in the batting order was silly. He is now in the leadoff spot where he belongs. now he just needs to start hitting.

I like the deal
I like the deal but not because you are getting a ‘stud’ SS. Unless its Hanley, I wouldn’t focus on obtaining an excellent SS because they are so iffy year to year. I do like the value you got though as I don’t think Garcia keeps it up and and Hill will be better but nowhere near last years’ numbers.
Reyes has been out for a very long time so I don’t think its a surprise he is a little up and down at the moment. Very unlikely he is a first rounder in any format but he can help your team when coupled with EY Jr. next year.
Good deal.
do it just for Garcia
since when is Reyes a SS stud, not this year. Reyes is part of a down right horrible NY Mets offense. He might get you some steals but not much else that you could not get elsewhere. There are a lot of people stealing this year that have the same aprx value as Reyes. There are nearly 3 times more people stealing and on pace for around 30 bases this year from last year. You can find steals. Reyes is still extremely fickle and fragile to me, and I do not trust him yet.
The biggest thing is that you get Garcia, a pitching stud for years to come (including this year). An an additional bonus of Aaron Hill, who admittedly is hitting horribly but has a decent career numbers .280/.333/.428 (which happens to be almost exactly what Reyes numbers are). Plus the Blue Jays are currently a very hot offensive team, and that is without the help of Hill. Realistically I think you are losing a little bit of value going to Hill but not much, and nothing an additional player can not help on (like steals). And there are some decent SS out there that can put up the same aprx number that Reyes is putting up now, like Orlando Cabrera or JJ Hardy (guys that are available)
