MLB Trade Rumors: Joe Nathan Opts for Tommy John Surgery
Twins closer Joe Nathan has elected to have Tommy John surgery, so the Twins are left with internal options Jon Rauch and Matt Geurrier as their closers to begin the 2010 season. Or, they could trade for the Padres Heath Bell. The Twins apparently are already linked to Bell based on recent rumors.
What would it take to get Bell from the Padres? Looking at Baseball America's Prospect Handbook, the Twins top 5 prospects are:
Aaron Hicks, OF
Wilson Ramos, C
Kyle Gibson, RHP
Miguel Sano, SS/3B
Ben Revere, OF
With the Padres looking to deal Bell sometime this year, does a package of two of these prospects get the deal done?

Hicks
Hicks alone is good value for a over 30 reliever who only has one year left on his contract.
Service Time
He only has 4 seasons of service time as of right now, so they would control him for 2 years (this and next).
I think if they can do it with Ramos + a player, they should run for it. Ramos is essentially excess if they think the Mauer extension is going to get done.
Ramos and Revere
If you could get Bell or (someone else with longer club control) with Ramos and Revere, I’d do that (pending Mauer extension.)
The Twins have Span as an excellent leadoff hitter for a while, making Revere available and should they extend Mauer, Ramos becomes trade-able.
Sure, you could probably use those guys to get something better, but their only real glaring need is a closer at this point.
Or you could just use Rauch and call it good.
