NL or AL Mid-Season Trade Question
I'm working in my first NL only league and I was wondering how, in general, leagues like this handle mid-season trades. If a player comes into, or goes out of, the designated league, what's the rule of thumb policy? Would CC have become ineligible in 2008 in an AL only league when he was traded to the Brewers? Or is there generally a policy around keeping that player eligible as long as he began the season in that place.

Some options
I’ve been in a couple different “only” league setups for this kind of trade.
One way is to keep the player on your roster, accruing stats. With CC in ‘08, an AL owner would have counted his stats with the Brewers. This rule is pretty fair, since you don’t have as many huge swings in value at the trade deadline.
A second way is to stop accruing stats and simply lose the player. With CC, an AL owner would have been out of luck (ouch!). An NL owner could make a waiver claim, though, for CC. This rule is easier to implement in most online leagues, and it forces you to build “in-season tradeability” into your draft rankings.
I’m sure there are other ways of coping. Be clear on the rule before your draft, though! It could affect some players’ value (Adrian Gonzalez could be traded to the other league, for instance).
