Fantasy Sleeper: Colorado Rockies Third Baseman Ian Stewart

For those of you who like to dig up the sleepers, Steve Gardner from the USA Today posted an article on Ian Stewart in his Fantasy Windup blog. In the article, he compares Stewart's 2009 season to Mark Reynolds 2008 season with the thought that Stewart could be the 2010 version of Mark Reynolds.

Head on over to Fantasy Windup and check out his article. Ron Shandler projects Stewart to go 27-86-6-.246 in 2010. I think he could out-perform that projection.

Too late, friend

The word is well and truly out. Razzball called this shot back in mid-December.

Razzball

he does a good job over there. It doesn’t mean everyone is on it though.

I love me some Ian Stewart.

Stewart

If he hits under .250, I am not convinced he gets enough plate appearances to top 30 HRs.

Because of the Melvin Mora Signing...

he might not. But if the Rockies didn’t sign Mora, he would definetly get enough atbats for 30hrs.

Agreed

So many playing time decisions are made based on batting average. That bodes poorly for Stewart.

Contact Rate

His 67.5% contact rate is worrisome also.

hopefully Ian Stewart isn't the next Chris Davis

There seem to be two types of fantasy analysts —

The ones who run to upside, adore HRs and SBs above all else, and think positional scarcity is a bunch of hooey.

And

The ones who hide under a rock from risk, realize that AVG, R, and RBIs are categories too, and are more likely to draft catchers, 2B, and SS early in drafts.

Looks like you guys are in the first boat.
