Royals get screwed, deluxe edition in Greinke trade
Ok- so the offense starved Royals get a couple banjo hitters in Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar, a low level pitcher and the infamous PTMNL, who turns out to be a player a one-hitter away from a lifetime ban in MLB. Oh and apparently they get $2 Mil, maybe in Walmart gift cards? The Royals showed why they are probably the most incompetent bunch in baseball. BTW- they give away a player who is now probably the best offensive SS in the NL Central. Maybe that's not saying much, though. But Yuniesky Betancourt certainly helps the Brewers' cause.
Maybe Jake Odorizzi and Jeremy Jeffress turn out well for the Royals? Nobody knows at this point. They were both rated pretty high in the Milwaukee organization. So I like this deal better than any of their prior trades - sending away Jermaine Dye for Neifi Perez; Johnny Damon for AJ Hynch, Angel Berroa and Roberto Hernandez; Carlos Beltran for Mark Teahen, Mike Wood and John Buck. Hopefully this Greinke deal turns out better than any of those.

$2 MIL
Apparently the $2 million is not coming to the Royals but is going to the Brewers. That’s amazing. Not only do the Royals get their asses handed to them in a trade but they pay $2 MIL to make it happen.
Not sure what you are thinking here
1. Jake Odorizzi is not some “low level pitcher”. He commands his 90-95 fastball extremely well, has a curve that rates as a future plus pitch, and his changeup, at the tender age of twenty, is already an average pitch. His arm action is also very fluid, which makes him less susceptible to injury. Hardly a low level pitching prospect
2. Lorenzo Cain – A 24 year old ready for the show, the toolbox is full for this guy. He shows outstanding plate discipline, where he showcased a 45/69 W/K ratio, and in a cup of tea last year showed why he is ready for everyday action in the show, not being overwhelmed and getting on base at a decent clip, with a .348 OBP. Hardly an afterthought.
3. Alcides Escobar – A little bit of a rough season last year, but that is why they call them rookies. Once he irons out and has more MLB experience under his belt, I fully expect him to post a better average along with stellar defense on a more consistent basis.
4. Jeremy Jeffress – Really? Your fear with him is the last chance for smoking some weed that MLB will really kick him out of baseball? How many chances did Steve Sax get? Like 7x at the ML level before he was no longer useful. Any kid who runs his fastball up to triple digits is a guy you want on your team, even if he has a nickel head.
When considering the fact that Greinke’s trade demand became public, Moore lost whatever leverage he had, and this deal is really quite good when you actually do a little bit of research on the players involved.
ugh
1) Odorizzi is in A ball, he is just as likely to get injured, despite his very fluid delivery, as he is to ever pitch in the majors.
2) Cain was a 24 year old in AA last year. I have a feeling he’s not the next Carlos Beltran
3) Escobar had more than a rough season…he was useless at the plate. I can’t imagine moving to the AL will help either.
4) I have no problem with anyone toking up but when you have a chance to make millions of dollars and you risk that by failing a 2nd drug test I start to get concerned about your commitment to your professions
Greinke demanded a trade but that didn’t mean KC had to accept this dog of an offer. They could have waited and tried to get an elite prospect instead of 4 guys, who if things break right, can be league average players at best.

Odorizzi is in A ball. That’s called a low level prospect. He has a lot of potential, and performed well. But he’s a LONG way away, and 20 yrs old in A ball is not great ARL.
Cain is a major regression candidate, and Escobar’s bat was suspect from the beginning. Completely overmatched. And Jeffress is a huge character risk, and even if he hits his 90% percent result, trading your ace for a very setup guy/good closer is not how you make yourself a winning ballclub.
Royals fans got jobbed on this one…fortunately, they already have the best farm system in the game to dream on.
