Jesus Montero Next In Line For Yankees
Andrew Marchand, ESPNMeanwhile, Montero might be a young Posada, a plus hitter at the catching position, making up for average defense. At Triple-A Montero finished the season well after a slow start, hitting .289 with 21 homers and 75 RBIs. Top Yankees officials felt that his defense progressed to the point where he can catch in the majors.
Catch in the majors? Are they fluffing him up to finally deal him this offseason?

Trade Fluff
If they can get Grienke with Brackman and a low level prospect, they should be able to flip Montero for Bob Gibson!
well
they almost got Cliff Lee for him…and Lee has performed pretty damn well in the playoffs of late….so you aren’t too far off.

interesting
wasn’t there a report late in the year that he was the worst receiving catcher prospect… I don’t remember where I read it but it does seem that it might be a case where they are trying to change the perception to get a deal done later in the offseason.
I love Montero’s bat (and for the majority of fantasy purposes, if he defense is adequate enough to ensure that he gets regular playing time, I don’t think it affects the fantasy circles much – if his defense is so bad that they can’t play him at catcher and he is only a DH, then it would be a big concern for fantasy…)
+1
I think they are trying to calm the concerns about his D so they can deal him.
Where does he rank amongst catchers for fantasy purposes in 2011? Could he be top 6-7?

not sure...
A full rookie season of at-bats (550 or so) I would think .280 BA with 15 – 18 HR and about 60 -70 RBI… not sure where that would put him but I don’t know if he gets enough at bats to get those numbers…
his power, average, etc. all rate to be higher but even the super prospects (Heyward, etc.) will need a few years to tap into the projections
