Who do I take at pick 6?

1 have the 6th pick in my draft (10 teams).  Standard scoring league; 1 QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1 Flex (RB,WR, or TE), 1DST, 1K

Star-divide

Beacuse of the Flex and the ability to start 3 running backs any given week, running backs will probably be 8-9 of the 1st 10 picks and maybe 14-15 out of the first 20 picks in this league.   By time 6 comes around AP, Forte, MJD, and Turner will no doubt be off the board.  I'm trying to decide between Tomlinson, Steven Jackson, DeAngelo Williams, and Steve Slaton.  They all have their obvious pluses, but have minuses too.

Plus:

Tomlinson: red zone carries, San Diego's cake division, SD is a strong team so lots of TD opportunities, proven track record, lots of receiving yards, safe pick.

Jackson: great talent, focal point of Rams offense, lots of receiving yards

Williams: what a year last year, Carolina is a heavy run-first team, Jonathon Stewart is banged up again so DW should see most of the carries

Slaton: great year with most of his damage coming in the 2nd half, lots of receptions, featured back in Houston

Minus:

Tomlinson: over 30, hurt last year, injuries piling up, that guy Sproles was pretty good in the playoffs, got paid, and will see lots of touches (you don't slap the franchise tag on a guy you don't really like)

Jackson: St. Louis kind of sucks, injury history

Williams: you don't draft a guy in the 1st round (J.Stewart) to sit on the sidelines, will lose touches to a healthy Stewart, does not get many receptions

Slaton: Houston raving about Chris Brown (backup) and is hinting that Brown could be the goal-line back, 1-year wonder?

What do you think?

Slaton

Tomlinson and Williams have solid backups (like you said, a franchise player and a first round pick respectively) gunning for time. Jackson is on a team that will need to start throwing about half way through the first quarter.

Slaton is the undisputed RB1 on a team with a good O-Line, a good QB, a good TE and a great WR1. If he stays healthy he should reach 1200 rush yds easily. I wouldn’t worry about Chris Brown, if he was any good we’d know it by now.

Slaton or LT if you ask me

I’d personally go with LT but I’d bet there isn’t much difference between the two by season’s end.

Jackson or Williams

I just read an article about how the Rams want to run their offense through him., and he is a very talented player. Williams put up huge numbers last year, and while they could decline a bit they should still be high this year. Great o-line, good enough QB, and very good WRs. I personally am not a fan of LT. I think you might be able to get Slaton with your 2nd pick. I just did a draft tonight with 10 teams, and he was like the 15th or 16 pick, and that’s about what he has been averaging.

Wow

I’d be ecstatic if I could get Slaton 15th.

+1

I’d be thrilled with him at the end of the 1st round.

LT, Slaton, DeAngelo then SJax

I like LT because now I think he has a chip on his shoulder after a disappointing campaign last year. But don’t forget he still was #7 among RBs in scoring per game last year in a standard format, even with turf toe. He will get his carries and receptions and he will excel.

Slaton is on the rise. That offense could be a juggernaut if the passing game is clicking. Teams won’t be able to key on Slaton, and he will pick up plenty of garbage time production late in games if they build a lead.

DeAngelo, as you said, will probably be in a committee when Stewart is healthy But remember, Carolina has been (and will be this year) a run-first offense. This will only help him. I actually like him a lot this year.

I agree with the sentiment of the comments above, SJax is just on an awful team. Which will hurt him more often than not. I can see some monster games but also games where he just disappears because they are playing from behind and passing all day.

Oh, and if you pick LT be sure to pick up Sproles in like the 8th or 9th. Then you’re set.

DeAngelo is interesting to me

because Stewart has a sore Achilles. That’s bad for a running back. DW might get more carries than we think.

Also consider Chris Johnson

He is comparable to the players you mentioned and should be available at #6.

I don't like him at 6 because he splits too much time w/ White

If he’s there on the wrap (doubtful), that’s another story.

CJ is money.

Dont be suprised to see 2k from scrimage this year. Really. Maybe only 6-7 TDs but if you get ppr he will be a top 6 dude this year.

I am a huge JR fan, but honestly neither

If he gets 40 carries all year I will be suprised. Baring injury. I suppose he would be able to fill Whites role better than CJs just because Johnson is soooooo fast. Hard to fill that role

Slaton or LT

Slaton in a keeper league because he’s younger obviously, LT in a non-keeper league b/c I think he has one last top-10 year left.

LT is top 10, I agree

but is he worthy of the 6th pick? I’m not there yet.

You guys see my dilemma now

Slaton and LT have the most “votes” from the comments. DW, S-Jax, and Chris Johnson get a little love too. I knew when I got the 6th pick, I would have this problem.

Bulger broken finger

If Bulger’s finger keeps him out for extended period of time, flee from SJax. He is injury prone already. Facing 11 in the box will kill him!

Wide reciever

Take Andre Johnson at six. I would rather have the best WR than the sixth best RB. I had this delema last year and almost took the “Safe” Addai pick. Glad I didn’t do that. Or take Slaton, when has Chris Brown ever been healthy enough to take carries from anyone?

Tomlinson is DONE!
