Monday's Roto Round Up: JJ Putz Blows Up, Joba Goes 8 Strong vs. Indians
Is Arizona starting pitcher Billy Buckner related to THE Bill Buckner?
RP, JJ Putz, NYM-right after Jerry Manuel gives Putz a vote of confidence, Putz goes out and gives up 4 hits, 1 BB and 4 runs to blow a one run lead. Bobby Parnell should be picked up in NL only leagues, as Putz may be injured. Another bad trade by Omar Minaya.
SP, Joba Chamberlain, NYY-Joba pitched 8 strong innings vs the Indians, throwing 106 pitches, striking out 5, walking 2, and giving up only 2 runs. Should he really be pitching out of the pen, Yankee fans?
UT, Chris Coghlan, FLA-Coghlan lead off for the Marlins on Monday night and responded with a hit and a walk in 5 plate appearances. Emilio Bonifacio batted 2nd. Sign of things to come for the Marlins?
3B, Bill Hall, MILW-how much longer does Ken Macha start Hall and his .221 AVG over Mat Gamel at 3B?T
3B, Andy LaRoche, PIT-Laroche, Laroche, Laroche is on fire!! Yes, Andy Laroche had 2 more hit and 3 RBI in the Pirates 8-5 come from behind win over the Mets. His AVG is up to .304.
OF, Matt Holliday, OAK-Holliday hit his 7 HR of the season, and has his AVG up to .270. He would be perfect in LF for the Braves, no? Who gets there first? Holliday or Brad Hawpe?
SP, Edinson Volquez, CIN-Volquez lasted only one inning for the Reds on Monday with numbness in his pitching hand. The Reds will need him if they want to challenge for a wildcard spot this year.
Arizona Diamondbacks-watched the Dodgers-DBacks game and heard the Dbacks stole 28 bases in May. Hinch is more aggressive on the basepaths, which is music to owners of Mark Reynolds, Felipe Lopez and Justin Upton. And Chris Young if he can start hitting again. As I write this he strikes out on a pitch a foot off the plate with 2 men on base.
CL, LaTroy Hawkins, HOU-Hawkins saved his 7th game of the season. Who gets traded first, Hawkins or Jose Valverde?
SP, Roy Oswalt, HOU-Oswalt won just his 2 game of the season, giving up 6 hits, 1 run while striking out 8 and walking 2. Oswalt has a 55-19 K/BB ratio in 69 innings pitched. How many prospects will it take to get Oswalt?

NO Joba should not be pitching out of the pen – give him time – if he shows consistency this year – “there is a chill in the air and baseball is being played in the Bronx.”

Maddog Radio
was listening to Maddog yesterday leaving work, and he and Steve Torre were talking about Joba moving to the pen if Wang can get back to the way he pitched last year. Probably not after last night’s performance, although the Indians are not a very good team at the moment.

I think Wang will wind up replacing Hughes if he does not have a good outing the next couple times he pitches. However, Wang has pitched well out of the bullpen – he and AA (Alfredo Aceves)

When was the last time the Astros bailed?

if they were smart
they would, but they are a 2nd half team, so maybe not. The economy and tkt sales may make the decision easier for them.

also when they realize they were a fluke last year would help
as well as when they realize how barren their farm system is and what they can get for Oswalt would help them too.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Hall
Hall is starting against lefties only, where he’s got a .333/.354/.564 line in 40 PAs this season, and a .281/.354/.497
