MLB Trade Rumor: Jake Peavy Traded To Chicago

San Diego Padres' ace Jake Peavy is rumored to be on his way to the south side of Chicago pending his agreement to waive his no trade clause.  In return, the Padres will receive four players headed by pitchers Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda and two PTBNLs.

My reaction is meh.  The Padres are in need of middle infield and outfield help.  If one of the PTBNLs is 2B/SS Gordham Beckham then I love the deal.  Given Beckham is inelgible to be traded sooner than one year after being drafted, this is the thread to which Padres' fans will cling because the two pitchers are not going to change the offensive dynamic of the team.

Poll
Would you like the trade for the Padres if Gordham Beckham were included in it?
Yes. Then it wouldn't look like such a dump trade

No. Peavy is a proven ace and should get a package that include more than one highly regarded prospect.

beckham is going nowhere

Acronyms

That isn’t nice. I can’t imagine he would be going anywhere, but a package led by Richard and Poreda doesn’t excite. Worse, it wouldn’t provide any fantasy value on the San Diego side unless Beckham went.

you're right..

it wasn’t nice and i apologize…but i almost choked on my egg sandwich even thinking about gordon beckham getting traded to the NL. Think if you went to a fantasy web site and saw rumors of Wieters to the Mets…

i bet in the next day or so there is a Kazmir to DL, Price called up announcement…just a hunch

+1

I can’t imagine the White Sox dealing Beckham. The next best hitter in the system may be Brandon Allen, a power hitting 1B, and the Pads already have one blocked at AAA by Adrian Gonzalez.

I wouldn’t be surprised if at least one of the PTBNLs is a 2008 draftee, though.

From Will Carroll Tweeting
injuryexpert: Hearing those Sox-Peavy rumors are very real. KWilliams is aggressive. Poreda +2 or 3 is the return.

Williams

he must be taking on Peavy’s salary if he isn’t giving up much.

FAAB-$50 maybe??

A bit different...

…in AL as we can bid on call-ups and guys on the wire, not just cross overs. Two teams have 50 and cap space and need pitching so he should go for 50 but on never knows…

ohhh

that is different. I guess they get a LT contract also? or no.

Yes

Any bid 11 or over is a contract. Considering Hughes went for 25 and Scott Podsednik went for 30…it is pretty safe to say Peavy gets a contract…he’s a hit at 50

whp will have a worse record?

the Nats or the Padres??

I guess the Dodgers felt that with the big lead already, they don’t need him to win the West.

Gammons Reporting

Beckham not in deal…seems like Poreda, Richard and 2 other pitching prospects…b/c you know, the Padres have such a great offense…
