Edwin Encarnacion was a popular choice to break out over the last few years, but he has yet to meet those expectations. He is currently on the DL with a wrist injury, and should return over the next few weeks. But, if Adam Rosales continues to hit like he is now, Encarnacion may find himself in a platoon in LF.
Rosales is currently hitting .295-.373-.477 with 2 HRs, 5 RBI and 4/5 K/BB rate n 44 ABs. Prior to being called up by the Reds, Rosales was raking at AAA Louisville. In 73 ABs, he was hitting .431-.479-.754-1.233 wiht 4 HRs, 15 RBI, and a 7/6 K/BB rate.
In five minor league seasons, Rosales has hit .291-.364-.491-.860 with 55 HRs and 35 SBs. In 2008, he played all 4 infield positions, after mainly playing SS in rookie ball and single A ball, so he can play a reserve role when Encarnacion returns from the DL.
Or, Rosales could play 1B, to allow Joey Votto to move to LF, as many feel LF is Votto's ultimate position. Rosales played 1B in High-A ball and in AA, so he is no stranger to that position.
The Reds have given the starting LF job to Laynce Nix for now, but should Rosales continue to hit like this, they will have a decision to make.
