Sunday's Roto Roundup: Peavy, Kershaw, Perez and Kawakami Get Rocked!
Sunday's roto roundup is highlighted by four pitchers-Jake Peavy, Clayton Kershaw, Olver Perez and Kenshin Kawakami-getting rocked, with Peavy, Perez and Kawakami taking it on the chin at home.
Jake Peavy-Peavy faced a bad hitting Pirates squad missing two of their best hitters-Ryan Doumit and Nate McLouth. Peavy gave up 5 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks, striking out 6. His ERA is approaching 6.00 and his trade value is dropping with each passing day.
Clayton Kershaw-something told me Kershaw would get pounded today in Colorado. The Rockies rocked Kershaw for 9 runs in 4 2/3rds innings, as Kershaw gave up 8 hits, 4 walks, and 2 HRs. Kershaw's ERA is now over 7. Do you buy low on Kershaw?
Oliver Perez-Perez may be the straw that breaks Omar Minaya's career as the Mets GM. Minaya signed Perez to a 3 year deal in the off-season, rather than going after Derek Lowe. Perez thanked him on Sunday by allowing 7 runs on 9 hits, 3 walks and 2 HRs vs a very bad Nationals team. Perez's ERA is now 9.31. I wonder if Jerry Manuel will move Perez into the bullpen after his comments over the weekend about making drastic changes.
Kenshin Kawakami-the 5th inning was the undoing of many pitchers on Sunday, including Kawakami who didn;t make it out of the 5th after giving up 8 runs on 8 hits and 2 HRs to Jay Bruce.Kawakami's ERA now stands at 7.06.
Hitting Stars on Sunday:
Jay Bruce-3 for 3, 2 HRs, 4 RBI
Joey Votto-3 for 3, 3 RBI, 2 RS
Shane Victorino-2 for 5, 4 RBI
Pedro Feliz-3 for 5, 2 RBI, 2 RS
Adam Jones-3 for 4, 3 RBI, 2 RS, HR, SB
Brian Roberts-4 for 5, 3 RS
Howie Kendrick- 3 for 5, HR, 4 RBI
Torii Hunter- 3 for 5, 2 RS
Kosuke Fukudome-3 for 4, HR, 5 RBI
Ryan Spilborghs-2 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 RS
Adam Laroche-2 for 3, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB
Pablo Sandoval-4 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 RS

Lowe v Perez
Omar did go after Lowe, the deal Perez signed was the one offered to Lowe before the Braves gave him 65 million. Not sure Omar should take the hit on this one, I don’t think the Wilpons wanted to pony up.

Ollie
What a disaster! I expect he’ll throw a gem and buy himself another couple starts.
Ollie is not the only problem in Metsville. John Maine has looked horrible, and Pelfrey is going to have the Verducci Effect coloring every poor start. The fact Livan Hernandez looks like a rotation mainstay says it better than any particular criticism of starters #2-4.

ok
The Wilpons and Omar should have ponyed up then, because that rotation won’;t take them far.
Did I hear correctly this morning-on the FAN-David Wright has k’d 23 times in 70 ABs?
That might deserve a separate post.
