Draft Results-Mixed 5X5

Here are the results of an online draft I particpated in last night. It is more or less standard rosters except we only start 1 C and we have to roster 6 starting pitchers and 4 relief pitchers. Due to the 6 starter requirement pitchers tend to go a bit earlier in this league than perhaps they do in others. One team took the drafting pitchers early strategy to an absurd level by selecting for the #2 slot in order: Johan, CC, Liriano, AJ, Lackey, Nathan and Rivera. I was drafting from the #3 slot and had to force myself to reach for pitching so I wasn't shut out of all the good starters. Although I had Doumit, I could not pass up Wieters at 20, he can sit on reserve until he comes up in May.

Absolutely love Danny Murphy this season. Nice job grabbing Zimmermann so late. I like almost every player on the team – which is a bad sign for our AL and NL drafts.

Weiters

How in the world does Weiters make it to the 20th round? Congrats there.

I also like Spillborghs in the 23rd. He’s not in high demand but, shows enough promise and playing time to hit close to .300 with 15/15 from the lead off spot.

Weiters

We only play one catcher so unless you get a Martin, McCann, Soto, Vmart, early most teams just wait until the last few rounds to take one and since he is starting the season in the minors everyone I guess just figured they could wait a bit longer. Hard to find that kind of upside in RD 20 though, if anyone can pull a Braun ’07 it is Wieters. FWIW, Mauer went in the 17th round.

I'm a little worried about your power

I count 1 guy I’d count on for 30 bombs, and not enough in the 20 homer range. some decent sleepers there with Spilz and your reserves, but power is a concern I’d have.

And it’s amazing the overreactions of people with Weiters going down, and Mauer’s kidney lowering their value and allowing some to pick up great players late. I’ll still take McCann, Napoli, Martin, Soto, and Doumit over Mauer, but he’s still going to keep your team’s average up.
