Trade Help
In my fantasy baseball league, one of my friends offered me this trade on ESPN fanatsy baseball. I was hping you guys could help me out...
2B Robinosn Cano for 2B-SS Mike Aviles
Mike Aviles is on my bench so far this year. I know the season hasn't stretd, but do you think I should accept this trade? Or do you think I should try and get someone else or make a counter-proposal?

+1
Aviles has SS-eligibility so that is a plus, but he can’t be expected to match Cano in run production. Aviles will steal more bases, though.
While Cano’s .269 AVG last season looks bad, it was weighed down by an awful April. He hit .302 in the second half.

I would do it...
…but just for the sake of knowing- who is your starting 2b now? And is this an AL only league? Also, who do you have as your starting SS?
As stated above, Cano is a very solid player but plays a position that is fairly deep in the AL. Aviles had his best year as a pro (minors included) at age 27. But he plays at an AL position that is pretty shallow actually. If you have a stud SS it might be worth it as you could essentially be trading a starter for a bench play in mixed formats. In AL only, not so much.
The good about Aviles is that he did not miss a beat last year after being called up from Omaha (his 3rd season there). And his combined 2008 AAA and MLB stats would include 48 doubles, 20 HR’s, 93 rbi’s and 110 runs scored. Surely that is nothing to sneeze at. But on the down side he only had a combined 29 bb’s in 633 combined at bats. In fact he has never liked taking a free base.
I would be a bit cautious if in an AL only league and you have a quality 2b. On the other hand figure Aviles will be valuable as long as he hits in the .320+ range. That’s not likely to happen. Of course, if you are in an AL only league he could hit in the .275 range and still be a viable starting SS.

I would do it then
I would go for it as Utley is coming off surgery and Cano would be a nice fill in if Utley is not 100% coming Opening Day..

Absolutely
Do this in a second. Don’t give the guy an opportunity to think about it. Click accept now.
