Who'd You Protect-Miggy Cabrera, Dustin Pedroia or Bobby Abreu??
AL-only, 4x4, keeper league with 30-40% inflation for top players. 14 keepers in 23-man roster.
You will protect just two of the these three: 2B Dustin Pedroia at $34, OF Bobby Abreu at $35 or 1B Miguel Cabrera at $49

I voted
for Abreu and Cabrera because for $1 more you can get more RBIs and SBs from Abreu than Pedroia, and MIggy is solid in 3 categories. Any power available in the draft? If so, then throw back Miggy and maybe get him cheaper? or get someone similar.

More thorough
A simple sort by 2009 HR totals shows the likely top hitters by power (HR/RBI)
1. Teixeira (39/122)
2. Jason Bay (36/119)
3. Cabrera (34/103)
4. Nelson Cruz (33/76)
5. Justin Morneau (30/100) Can be protected at $38
6. Hank Blalock (25/66)
7. Mike Cameron (25/70)
I was going to try for Top 10 but the point was driven home once Hank Blalock showed-up. Mike Cameron insured it was no fluke.
+1

No
I wasn’t. What got me to even thinking about it was my leaning towards keeping Abreu and Pedroia. Then i asked whether it’d be out of the realm to protect Cabrera.
Pedroia I like because 2B the middle is no longer power productive and he hits for AVG. A smaller Derek Jeter.
yea
I say pedro and Miggy. Abreu might put up more numbers in certain categories but there are a lot more solid fantasy outfielders than there are 2nd baseman
Abreu's age risk and Pedroia's age potential shouldn't be ignored
If you ignore age, Abreu and Pedroia are similar hitters with Abreu getting a slight edge because he’ll steal a few more bases and knock in more runs, largely because he bats third most of the time. But Abreu will be 36 opening day and Pedroia will be 26. The risk of Abreu regressing is real despite his consistency during his career while the chance Pedroia will exceed career norms is much higher.
Also, pay attention to the Red Sox lineup with the addition of Scutaro — it’s possibe he will lead off rather than Ellsbury, and if he does, his higher OBP will likely mean more RBIs for Pedroia. On the flip side, Abreu loses a great OBP guy in Figgins and could lose RBIs in the process.
