MLB Trade Rumors: Prince Fielder to Red Sox-Part 2!

Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton has moved his MLB Live show to 9pm Monday-Friday, and he opened his show tonight with a plethora of trade rumors. Here we go:

  • Prince Fielder to the Red Sox for Clay Buchholz, Michael Bowden, Mike Lowell and Dan Bard. Does that make more sense, Red Sox nation??
  • San Diego-Chicago lighting up the Jake Peavy talks again-Jake Peavy for Sean Marshall, Garrett Olson, Kevin Hart, and Jeff Stephens. San Diego may want a 4-1 or 5-1 deal. He added that the Cubs will not include 3b prospect Josh Vitters in the deal.
  • Baltimore dealing Brian Robert to the Giants for Jonathan Sanchez, and
  • Baltimore dealing Brian Roberts to the Braves for Kelly Johnson and Jorge Campillo, and
  • Baltimore dealing Brian Roberts in a package to the White Sox for Gavin Floyd.
  • The Angels dealing Chone Figgins to the White Sox for Jermaine Dye.
  • He also added the he felt the Mets should be a bidder on Manny Ramirez. Think we talked about that a few times here on Faketeams. Hamilton feels the Mets are in the biggest market in the league, and owe it to their fans to sign Manny.

Poll
Is a Prince Fielder to the Red Sox for Clay Buchholz, Michael Bowden, Mike Lowell and Dan Bard STILL too much for the Red Sox to deal?
No, Buchholz has no spot in the rotation, and we still get to keep Lars Anderson.

Yes, the Red Sox offense is fine, and you can't count on Penny, Smoltz and Saito to stay healthy.

Getting Closer

I suppose that yes that does make more sense. Except that I still don’t see the Red Sox trading away Buchholz for any reason. I think in their minds he is still untouchable for the time being. Maybe come the midseason they find a deal they can’t turn down or he’s not developing to their liking.

Maybe this Hacksaw character you keep referring to is reading this site. Where else is he coming up with these ideas? I thought that it was pretty much a given that Buchholz is the one guy they are not going to move.

Same guy, new name.

Hacksaw

he’s based in the LA-SD area, been covering the Dodgers for 20+ years apparently.
Wouldn’t Buchholz value drop if he doesn’t pitch well this season?

I heard Rich Ackerman from WFAN on XM 175 this morning.

Prince Fielder to the Red Sox

Not gonna happen as long as Boras represents him! After BorASS burned the Sox with Teixeira, they will be avoiding Boras clients. Just look at the posturing going on with the Veritek negotiations.

Hacksaw

As a long time Chargers fan I’d have to say take anything Hacksaw says with a pound of salt.

Really?

I can’t see the Red Sox trading that much for Fielder. My feeling with the current trade market is that no one will pay that much for just one player, especially one whose value depends so much on one skill—hitting home runs. If I’m the Red Sox, Fielder is a luxury, not a requirement, and as such, not worth that many blue chip pitching prospects. A pitching prospect for a young catcher makes much, much more sense for the Sox and also does a lot more for the team, seeing how they don’t have a catcher and considering Varitek’s offensive performance as of late.

Fielder to someone like the Giants makes a lot more sense to me. They have a genuine need and have the means to give Fielder his money in a few years. They also have quality young pitching.

and the Red Sox

don’t have the money to give him?
what skills does Papi have?

It's not just about how much money a team has

It’s about the inclination of the team to dole out that money. Ortiz as a comparison with Fielder makes no sense. The Red Sox already have Ortiz, so they wouldn’t have to trade four good players for him (at least as in this scenario). The Red Sox have shown a preference to build from within. Trading away a huge bundle of prospects for Fielder doesn’t make sense within that model, and they would be smart not to go in that direction.

is he worth listening to?

does this hacksaw dude ever come up with anything right before i start listening? or does he just throw anything out there without any consequences to get an audience? To me it seems like he’s been just saying what rotoworld prints but a week late?

I think

he throws stuff out there to get people to call in…not sure if rumors are his, or are actually out there.

Smacksaw

I’ve listened to Hacksaw for close to 20 years as a sports radio listener in San Diego. Everyone here knows he is a complete joke. Does he still have is “high speed sports wire” on XM? Does he still yell at people to call in? “Why can’t I get a listener on my ladies line, dammit?” Haha.

He makes stuff up all the time. Another one of his tricks is “breaking news” that is more than 24 hours old. As mavickers already said, take everything he says with a pound of salt.

so....

he’s not much different than the Rosenthals and Heymans of the baseball world then? is there a difference between what they report and what Hacksaw reports?

Fielder

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want Fielder. Anderson is waiting in the wings, and although Lars won’t have as many HRs as Fielder, all other numbers should be the same or better. Why “waste” that many pitching prospects when you’re not getting a big delta (difference between Fielder and Anderson) in return? It makes no sense whatsoever, and would go against everything my Sawx stand for!

Fielder is not going anywhere

Link

According to GM Doug Melvin, there have been no talks about trading Prince, and he’s not going anywhere

I just sit back and root for the taser
